"So, what do we do first?" Trey asks after checking in the hotel. We get to share a room while Mark has to get his own. Of course, who knows what he'd do...or what I would do - Laughing like the devil inside. Plus, we can't plan if he would be listening all the time.
"Shopping!" I say immediately. We didn't bring anything with us. Since I think we would be needing to stay here for more than just one night, we need to buy some clothes.
"By the way," she jumps on the bed beside me, "what was that answer Mark was talking about back in LA?"
"Yo, Trey. I'm hungry. I need Italian." I get up, pretending to busy myself, looking for something in my pockets.
"Uhm...yeah. I think there's this bistro down the street." It's easy to distract her. Maybe that's why Sean caught her last time. I suddenly get nervous again. I can't take Trey along with me when I go to Lara. Sean might be there and he would smell something.
"Trey." I hold her shoulders, leaning down as she's sitting on the bed. "Listen. I need to get to Lara first. It would be too emotional if Mark would come with me."
She nods. "I get it." She smiles and gets up, hugging me. "Let's eat your last meal before you enter the lion's den."
I just laugh and shake my head. "I won't get hurt. Don't worry."
"I told you your best friend was weird the first time I saw her in middle school. Remember that?"
"You're weirder," I joke her, "you broke up your perfect relationship." She just sticks her tongue out.
The three of us go to the bistro Trey saw earlier down the street.
"How the heck did I become friends with a pig like you?" Trey says, looking disgustedly at the plates in front of me.
"Pig!" Mark laughs. I glare at him and he purses his lips.
"Remind me how we came to become this close again?" She continues mocking me, shaking her head.
"Aside from the fact that you had the biggest crush on me in middle school?" I dart back at her, raising my brow.
Mark gasps, surprised. I think he didn't notice that Trey is lesbian. You can actually tell with the way she walks and talks...and dresses, too.
"Shut up. I regretted that time." She scowls, looking down at her food, accepting defeat.
"Yo, Mark!" Trey casually slings her hand over Mark's shoulders as we exit the bistro.
"You can wait for me in the hotel." I tell them, taking out the keys of the rental we got. "I'll follow."
"Where are you disappearing at again?" Mark asks. I can see he's getting a bit uneasy by Trey's constant pulling.
"Just." I get in the car before he asks more questions.
As I near the address Trey has given me, my heart starts beating faster.
What would she say when she sees me? I'm sure she heard Mark and I talking that time. I feel guilty, ashamed, yet my anger is still stronger. I have to control my emotions if I want to gain something from this trip.
I take deep breaths, licking my lips as I step in front of the door of her condo. The building is located in the center of the city, making it really expensive to live here.
Before I got here, there was a ninety percent doubt still in me. Like...I still didn't believe she'd be doing this to our family. It didn't really hit me just yet. But, looking at the place, unless she got financial support from others, I ask myself - "How could she afford to get this place with the money his father was making?"
