Dean's POV
"Put her on oxygen!"
"What the hell is happening to her!?!" I yell.
"Alpha you can't be in here right now," the pack doctor calmly says while ushering me towards the door.
"I just want to know what's wrong." My words come out hushed and pained.
"I will tell you when we're finished. Now sir, alpha, I have to operate on her," and with that I was shoved out of the room
"Did the doctor tell you what happened to Anna?" my father asks as I walk into the reception area with concern written on his face.
"No, all she said was to wait till the operation is complete," I say and run my hands through my hair in worry.
I sit in a nearby chair and rub my face with my hands. Why did I leave her alone? I ask myself. If I cant keep my mate safe, how am I going to run a whole pack?
My wolf says. Our mate will be fine, she's not going to go anywhere. You found her before any real damage happened, you'll be a great leader.
I let a small smile slip on my lips from the pep talk my wolf gave me. It gives me a glimmer of hope that Anna will survive whatever happened to her.
"It will be okay Dean, she has a strong heart," my mother says, rubbing my back.
I nod my head in response, not trusting my voice. She will survive, I think to myself. She has to.
**
I woke up to my shoulder being shaken. I slap the hand away and grumble incoherent words about needing more sleep.
"Do you want to sleep," I hear the voice say, "or do you want to see your mate?"
My eyes snap open at the question and I am instantly awake. I follow the voice, Avery, to Anna's hospital room.
We walked into her room and saw Anna laying on the bed, lifelessly. I grab her hand and squeeze it for dear life. She's not cold but is very pale.
I then noticed the doctor surveying the monitor. Taking down notes and adjusting dials.
"You're probably wanting to know why your mate ended up in the hospital like this," she says turning to me.
"Well duh. That's pretty much why I'm here," I say sarcastically. I scoot the chair I was sitting in closer to Anna and listen to the doctor speak.
"The bullet wound she had was nothing major, just a flesh wound, but it was actually a shotgun shell and not a bullet from a rifle. Most of the the pellets missed her but a few grazed her and went into her arm. One, which, had lodged itself into a vein.
"This particular shell was made with wolfsbane. Once the pellet hit her it had cracked open and let the poison flow through her body directly though the blood stream. That's why she past out so quickly. It's also why I had to kick you out of the room. I apologize for disrespecting you but I had to do what had to be done."
"Don't apologize doctor, I'm proud you could save her life," this statement caused her to smile slightly. "Could you possibly tell me what the wolfsbane did to her body?" I asked.
I already know what it does to a werewolf, I've seen it happen right before my eyes. My older sister-yes I have, or, had an older sister-died of a wolfsbane bullet wound to her neck. She was supposed to take the alpha title, since she was the oldest, but died before the alpha age of 18. I was 12 at the time.
