Young Life, Short Lived

Its been about two months since I've gotten out of the hospital. The bad thing is, is that I have to have a body guard with me at all times. I am not a child.

I'm sitting outside on a lawn chair with a body guard on either side of me and four near the forests' edge in case of intruders. Its a little bit over the top but when your mate is an overprotective alpha male, nothing is over the top.

The book I'm reading is Allegiant, the third book in he Divergent series. God! Tris is so stupid putting herself in danger, like, all of the time!

I heard laughter and saw my brother and mom come out from the pack house. I set my book down and jumped and tackled Brett. He yelped in surprise then lifted me off the ground and put me over his shoulder.

He started laughing and so did our mom. I pouted, "mom tell him to put me down."

She covered her mouth with her hand while she laughed then took deep breaths to calm herself down, " Brett, put your sister down before she beats you up."

"What?! No, she can't beat me up," he says while setting me down on the ground. "I'm way stronger than her."

"Wanna bet little bro?" I asked amused.

"No, I'll hurt you too badly." I could hear his heartbeat increase when he said that. And for the few months that I've known him, I've realized that he is a very bad liar. His voice votes up an octave when he does.

"Brett you're a bad liar," I said with a chuckle.

"I know," he said looking down. I laughed at how easily he admitted to it.

Don't get me wrong, Brett is a pretty strong guy but not as strong as me. Between him and Dean it would probably be a stalemate.

I gave Brett a kiss on the cheek, which he returned with a gross expression on his face.

I laughed, "you need a girlfriend."

"Why?"

"So I don't have to put up with you."

"Same here!" mom shouted over at us.

I laughed while my brother pouted.

"Luna?" I turned around and saw a little boy.

I squatted down so I was eye level with him, "hi sweetie, what's your name?"

"Michael."

" What's up Michael?"

"My mommy went for a walk and she isn't back yet."

"I'm sure she'll be on her way back soon. How long has she been gone?"

"Almost six hours. Her walks are usually only 30 minutes," Michael started to cry and I pulled him into a hug.

"Don't worry, we'll find your mommy." I looked over to my mom, "can you watch him for awhile?"

She nodded her head yes and I told him to stay with her.

I walked quickly to Deans office, his dad was showing him the ropes of being alpha.

I knocked three times and waited for the door to open. It did and I walked in and told the situation to both of them.

"Those damn rogues probably took her," Dean said while running his hands through his hair.

"Let the pack know and get a search party going," Deans dad said.

"Already on it," Dean answered. Then his face went blank. He must be sending a message through the mind link.

I was about to leave when the alpha said my name, "yes?"

"I want you to lead the search party."

"Why me?"

"You're the future Luna, you kind of need to get involved."

"Oh...right."

That night we set out for a search party. Dean and his best fighters took the forest while my siblings and I took to the sky.

We searched for hours but there was no luck. I was about to call it a night when I heard something. It was very faint but still audible. It sounded like some yelling. I waved Brett and the girls over to follow me towards the source of the noise.

A woman, Michael's mom, was tied to the very top of a tree, thrashing and yelling for help. I instantly went over to untie her. After sher was untied I thought for a minute. That was easy, too easy.

I heightened my senses and heard the faint snap of a string and an arrow whistled by my head.

"Brett take her," I yelled and he picked her up bridal style and flew off with her.

More arrows flew at me and I did my best to dodge them. "Christi! Julie! get out of here! Tell Dean it was an ambush."

"We aren't leaving without you," Christi said catching an arrow from the air and throwing it back the direction it came from.

"Go back to the pack house and warn the rest of the members there, now," I said. "That's an order." They sighed and flew off.

"Come out and show your faces!" I yelled at the hunters. Silence. No whispering or breathing. The only thing that I can hear are hearts beating.

I folded my wings into my back and stood on a solid branch, then concentrated on the heartbeats. I heard at least four different beats. One was very steady compared to the others.

The steady heartbeat started to get louder and louder. I turned around, confused, an was face to face with Chad.

"So this is why you were allowed with that pack of mutts."

"They aren't mu-"

"Shhhhhhh, you're not like them. Come with us and you'll be normal." He said stroking my cheek.

A part of me, deep down inside, wanted to agree with him. To leave Dean and his pack, to live a normal life. But my heart told me not to, my heart belonged to Dean and everyone here. I love his pack. I love my pack.

I shook him off and took a step back, "no."

He nodded his head, then got behind me quickly and wrapped his arms around my neck, "if you want to live with them, you'll die like them as well."

Then he squeezed so hard that I thought my throat felt as if it were a stress release ball. I couldn't breath. My last thought, before I passed out from the lack of oxygen to my brain, was when Dean and I first met.
