Chapter 4: Looks Can Be Deceiving

It's been days since our date at the diner but I still can't not smile when I saw the look on Katherine's face as she saw her brothers. She was as red as an apple and her eyes had that glint to it that made you want to crawl into a hole.

I immediately knew that she wasn't one to be crossed.

After that, we left her brothers and walked down the road. She kept blushing profusely and apologizing I had to kiss her. Nah, just jokin'. Well, we ended up in the beach and watched the sunset. We talked about little things; where we grew up, embarrassing moments, that kind of stuff.

We hadn't seen each other since, but we texted often.

My best friend since high school, Tristan, invited me to come to the beach today. He told me there was a ladies' beach volleyball tournament championships. Tristan was like every other man, he was a serious playboy. Why we became best friends? I don't really know.

So here I was, dressed in a white shirt and trunks with shades over my eyes, standing in the beach full of people, waiting for my pervert of a friend.

"Eric, my maaaaan! How's it been, bro?" Tristan appeared, his arms spread wide with that goofy grin on his face.

I clap his back "Been good, Tris. How about you?" I look at him at an arms length. He became a bit tan.

He nods and smirked. "Few girls left and right."

I smacked his head. We walk to where the game will be held. People were already crowding around it, I check the time. Five minutes more.

"So how's the chick you've been blabbering about?" Tristan took a swig on his Bud, giving me a raise of a brow.

I let out a laugh. "She's well, I think."

He glared at me. "Man, you won't get her like this."

The announcer's voice booms through the speakers and I shrug. He introduces the referees first then proceeds to a girl named Mandy McCurdy. Now I know why Tristan wanted to come. He wanted to watch girls in bikinis.

"And now, five time Ladies Beach Volleyball Champion, let's give it up for Katherine Ambers!"

I remove my sunglasses and my jaw drops with the thundering cheers. Katherine appears with a red two piece. Holy mother of water. She waves at the crowd, her curves making her hotter. Her hair was in a tight braid and she spots me, winking. My eyeballs almost went out of their sockets. She plays volleyball?

Tristan taps me "Dude, that's the girl you're dating?" he sounded so breathless.

I look at her every move. "Yep." I say, popping the 'p'.

She serves the ball with a hard spike and the crowd goes wild. The other girl was good, but not as good as Katherine, she dived to save the ball and did earning a point. "Be careful, she sure spikes that ball hard." he whispers.

Katherine and Mandy had a close fight. Whenever one gets a point, the other takes it back. At the end of the set, Katherine won. A lot of people approached her during her water break, asking for a picture or her signature. I watch her smile and talk to them. A little girl approached her, holding a camera. She carried the little girl on her hips and the girl's parents took a picture of them. She gave her a kiss and waved her goodbye.

The corners of my mouth tugged upwards. She was very approachable with her fans, always offering a warm smile.

The rest of the game had been heated, but Katherine remained cool and seemed to enjoy the game. The game ended with Katherine taking a sweep. Hordes of fans runs to her, her brothers carried her on their shoulders. The announcer hands her the trophy and held it high, the cheers becoming even more defeaning. Tristan and I clap at the sidelines. The crowd disperses a bit and her brothers put her back down.
