Royalty Brown: Sunday 29th June:
It was a late warm evening in the holiday home and we'd recently returned from swimming with dolphins and shopping in a small Bahamian town.
I took a deep breath before seating myself a respectable distance beside AJ on the couch. By respectable distance, I mean that he occupied the far left side and I occupied the far right of the 3-seater plush couch.
He looked up at me for a brief second before redirecting his attention to his phone. I looked up at the Plasma TV which hung on the wall in front of us.
Everybody else was scattered around the large holiday home and I just happened to catch AJ alone in this room.
I cleared my throat slightly before speaking, "Hi,"
We hadn't actually spoken since the trip began, butI knew that we both had a lot to say to each other.
He paused for a second, his finger caught in time above his phone. He eventually looked up at me shaking his head.
"How's Mylen?" He asked. I swallowed, only at the fact that he didn't want to speak to me which I understood.
I bit my lip slightly, I almost thought that he'd try and deny that Mylen was his or something. I admired the fact that he didn't ask if he was his son, it's like his instincts lead him correctly. A lot of guys in our day and time would've rushed to receive paternity results, or would have just been in denial and dipped out.
"He's perfect... Do you wanna see some pictures of him?" I asked, slipping my phone from my back pocket. A half-hearted smile broke onto his face as we edged to close the gap between us.
I held my phone in-between the two of us and began swiping slowly through pictures and videos of Mylen and I and some pictures of Mylen on his own.
The smile on AJ's face was priceless. He'd now taken control over my phone as he somewhat examined and scrolled the photos with a grin.
"How old is he?" He asked.
"He's turning five in September." I said with a slight chuckle as we watched a video that I'd taken of Mylen dancing to Michael Jackson and interpreting his own kind of funny dance moves into his routine.
"He's just like a mini-me..." AJ said chuckling. His head tilted as we watched the videos.
AJ did nothing but smile and chuckle. Now his laugh was hearty. As of there were no more troubles in the back of his mind and he was care free.
"H-he's been wanting to meet you for a while. He's seen pictures and videos of you..." I said timidly.
"Did you tell him why he hadn't been able to see me?" AJ asked, finally looking up at me and showing me some eye-contact.
