14: *The effect of communication*

Devin Hulls: Sunday 21st July:

April, Lia and I had taken a trip around to come and visit April's dad and her little cousins Chay Chay, Mya and Kay.

We were currently all in the main room and April had drifted off into a random ass deep sleep. She's been sleeping a lot lately and at the awkwardest times as well.

"What is actually up with her? Ain't this her third time 'napping' and it's barely passed the P.M's?" Lia asked as she and Mya chuckled.

"I'on even know. She just been tired all day from doing nothing." I shrugged.

I looked up hesitantly after I could feel April's dad's eyes on me. I locked eyes with him and his eyes were squinted and his eyebrows furrowed together.

He cleared his throat lightly as the girls continued to chat amongst themselves.

"I think imma fix me a drink, Devin, why'on you come wit' me..." He said.

"I ain't thirsty--"

"I said come with me." He ordered through gritted teeth. Lia's instigating ass shaped her mouth into an 'O'.

"Boy--, if I were you I would not think twice about shit, you know he's licensed to carry?" She asked and I sucked my teeth lightly whilst chuckling a bit.

Kayden slightly gasped at Lia's profanity but she soon shut her mouth and returned to playing with her sisters.

I can't even lie and say that at that point I wasn't scared as shit. The look on his face remained straight as he nodded for me to follow him to the kitchen, which I obviously did.

As we walked to the kitchen in silence, August slowly began to fold his arms over one another and he leant onto the kitchen counter whilst eyeing me for the longest.

"...Is everything aight?" I asked. I wasn't yet sure how to address him since he still seemed pretty off towards me, as if he still (after almost 5 years) didn't trust me with April.

It was almost like he was bipolar towards me in fact, some days he was cool, some days he couldn't stand me for no apparent reason. Maybe somebody has been feeding him all of April and I's business, and maybe he now knows of the mistakes I've made in our relationship. Or maybe it's just when I'm with April that he's Gucci, oh how I wish Ape was awake right now.

"You and April been having sex?" He asked straight up which almost took me by surprise. I cleared my throat, busying my attention with the open window as I scratched the back of my head.

"Umm, I mean..." I trailed off not particularly sure what the right answer should've been. I know that Mr Alsina has some sort of issue with me, I'm just not sure what the issue actually is... And I'm 100% sure that confessing that I've been fucking with his daughter for a while now would probably be a wrong move.

"Let's be real here, 'cause I already know what the answer is about to be. But do y'all use protection?" He asked, adjusting himself in the corner.

I slipped my hands into my pockets and swayed forwards a little, "Umm, no."
I said a little breathlessly.

"Right, and is she on the pill or anything?" He asked and my eyebrows rose a little as I paused.

"No..." I trailed off.

"Look hea' boy? I done dealt with multiple pregnant females in my lifetime, I'm supposed to have at least 6 kids right now, if it weren't for baby moms who sucked ass, and bare in mind there were a few pregnancy scares back in high school for me too. So, I know damn well how to spot a pregnant woman now..." He said trailing off, obviously hoping for me to catch on.
