April Alexis Alsina: Tuesday 12th November:
I stopped my car's engine outside of the diner and pulled my key out of the ignition with an exhale. I recently passed my third trimester in my pregnancy and it was becoming more and more obvious that I was pregnant; although Devin and I were yet to spill the news to his side of the family.
I stepped out of my car and locked it after picking my handbag out and adjusting my feet in my shoes which I'd loosened whilst driving.
I pushed a few strands of hair behind my ear and walked towards the diner which was just as bright and lively yet vintage as my very first visit here. Slipping my phone into my back pocket, I pushed through the double doors with a smile as Papa Drex (Devin's dad) spotted me from the cashier stand.
I walked towards where he was and gave him a hug from behind the counter as we greeted each other. His eyes swarmed directly towards my stomach area which was in the process of forming and his eyes widened.
"Hold on a second..." He mumbled and I mentally cursed to myself. I thought I'd hidden the bump well enough behind my loose shirt, but obviously I only deceived myself.
He took my hand and gy She uided me from behind the cashier counter to a seating booth where, surprise surprise, Ma'Lee, Nana Rosetta (Devin's grandmother) and Mama Phee were sat.
"April!" They exclaimed with smiles after setting eyes on me. I hugged them both as we exchanged greetings and they immediately slid over in their booth to make space for Papa Drex and I; although Papa Drex remained on his feet.
"What're you doing back here?" Ma'Lee asked with a smile.
"Devin had asked me to pick us up some food from here before--- before we meet up." I said.
"Meet up for--?" Mama Phee asked trailing off, she knew that we had a doctors appointment so I nodded in confirmation and I slyly pursed my lips together.
Mama Phee, Ma'Lee and Papa Drex all exchanged looks before Papa Drex eventually decided to take a seat beside his wife. Mama Phee and Ma'Lee were the only people in the booth who had been verbally informed about my pregnancy, the rest of them probably noticed it from a mile away.
With everything going on within our families, sitting down and letting people know about our expectant bundle of joy was a task of its own.
"Is there something that you'd like to tell us?" Papa Drex asked and I slightly swallowed. I should've expected this question when I stepped into the diner. Older women always seemed to have pregnancy alarms in their heads which set off even before the pregnant woman knew that she was of child.
"Uhmm,..." I trailed off slightly. I didn't want to spill the news to everybody without Devin beside me because I knew that he'd want to be around especially to tell his side of the family.
"Sweetie, you're pregnant," Nana Rosetta stated in a light tone as they all slightly smiled.
"Yeah..." I chuckled slightly whilst looking down as they broke into squeals and Papa Drex looked up at the ceiling with a faint smile as if he were thanking God.
"Oh my goodness! I told you Sheila! Didn't I tell her Drex? Oh goodness we're finally going to be great-grandparents!" Nana Rosetta squealed with Ma'Lee who was in fact going to be a great-grandmother.
