Jack pov

I've only shared a bed with Lily once but I kinda wish I could have her next to me every night. We have known each other for several months. The moon ceremony is in less than a week.

I wonder who the 'lucky' maiden will be this time. I feel bad, I really do for all those girls who sacrificed themselves for the Tribe. I just think it's a little extreme I guess. Why can't we just live in peace, gather the moons rays, and not sacrifice anyone? We don't need unimaginable power what would we use it for? Farming? Tending to the sick? Cleaning? It's not like The Crescent Moon Tribe has any threats. The only minor threat was the Dark Moon Tribe and I'm pretty sure they aren't a threat anymore.

Ugh, my minds so jumbled up with thoughts so I think I'll take a walk. I was watching the moon from the top of the altar.

"Beautiful night is it not?" I heard a voice from behind me and turned around to find my my father standing there.

"Did your thought's keep you up again Jack?"

He hit the nail on the head and I sighed

"Father I've been thinking and I just don't understand why we have the moon ceremonies."

My father sighed, "I always knew we would have this talk someday. I truly do not know why our ancestors seeked the moon's power. I do know this; we cannot simply throw away their lives work because we cannot understand their ways. Whatever it may be that our ancestors seeked this power it had to have been for a good reason."

"But what reason father, do you even know?" I asked

My father sighed and looked at the moon before responding

"A long time ago when Mikadzuki was Chief the young tribe was attacked by a power they had never seen before. It was a dark ancient power that manipulated the minds of who it controlled tainting them in the process and erasing who they once were. A few Tribesman left the tribe because they wished to control this ancient power. Mikadzuki then stumbled upon the prophecy, he needed the moon's ancient power to defeat the dark. That is why we continue with the moon ceremonies."

"Have you ever seen this dark power father?"

My father shook his head, "No, nor have I seen the Moon's power unless it was during the ceremonies."

I nodded, "Thank you father."

He smiled at me before leaving.

I stayed there a bit longer to look at the moon.

Please let us find the maiden soon, please let me protect this village and the lives within it. I pleaded in hopes that the moon would grant my wish.
