Jack pov

After failing to convince Lily to come back with me, I dejectedly went back to the village. Gretta was the first to greet me when I arrived at the gates.

"Why do you look so down, Jack?" she asked peering at my face, "No outsiders to kill today?" She teased, trying to cheer me up.

"No, it's not that." I sighed

"So there are outsiders to kill then?" Gretta asked

"Oh, no"

"So girl troubles then, who's the lucky girl?"

She can see through me so easily even when I give her nothing. My father would never have a stupid guard watching me so of course he found Gretta.

"No one is, Gretta, it's late I am going to sleep."

I walked past her

"Oh okay!" Gretta snickered

I finally reached my hut and unlocked my door. I was greeted by the fresh smell of incense. Someone must have cleaned recently as there was no sign of dirty clothes littering the floor. I sighed once more before falling into my bed and falling into a deep sleep.

I woke up before the sun so I could go give Lily some candles and lanterns so the forest doesn't burn down. After I came out of my hut I was greeted by an unwanted Gretta.

"Why hello Frost," I turned towards her but I continued on my journey to Lilys tree, "I'm assuming you'll be taking some more supplies and leaving it somewhere again, right?" Gretta followed me smirking, obviously hitting the nail on the head. Sometimes I wish Father gave someone dumber to have the privilege to watch me, but Father is smart and wants the best for me. After all, I am almost 18. If I don't find a wife soon I will be arranged to a suitress my father approves of.

"Since you're not saying anything I'll assume that's a yes, don't worry I won't tell your father." Gretta winked

I just looked at her for a moment

"I know you do what you do for a reason I won't get in your way, after all you are the soon to be chief I can't have you hating me now can I?" Gretta smirked again

"Just remember what you're getting yourself into." she reminded

"The blue moon is in exactly eleven more months, I would expect you to be there." Gretta looked at me one last time before leaving for her hut.

Eleven more months huh.

Then everything will change. I hope it's for the better and not the worse.
