On the bus ride home, I realized I had two things going on. The movie with Lindsey, and going for ice cream with Gabe. I had no idea what I was going to do. I don't want to hurt either of their feelings. I can either call Lindsey and ask her to postpone, call Gabe, or try to do both at once. I think doing both at once would be the worst option. Usually when they do that in movies it turns out bad. I haven't seen Gabe in a long time and Lindsey and I have been friends forever. I decided I should call Lindsey because she'd be the most likely to understand. The conversation went a little like this:
Lindsey picks up (L is Lindsey and D is Daisy)😜
L: Hello?
D: Hey Lindsey! It's Daisy.
L: Oh! Hey! How are you?
D: Actually...
L: Thats great! I'm fine.
D: Lindsey..
L: Life couldn't be better!
D: Uhh...
L: Michael and I are so in love!!!
D: Somethings not right...
L: Ok. You've forced it out of me. I think Michael's gonna break up with me!
D: Are you sure about that? He agreed to go to the movies with you. That has to mean something, right?
L: What if he is going with me to the movies to break up with me? Or what if I find out he's going to the movies with another girl. Or what if...
D: Don't even finish that. How long have you known him for?
L: A few days?
D: That's right. And how much do you know about him?
L: Not that much...
D: Exactly. You don't know what he'll do. He might be an evil genius!
L: Not...Helping...
D: If you barely know the guy, don't get worked up over him. You need to know the guy before you get worked up over him.
L: Wait! Is this about Gabe? Cause you know him.
D:...No...
L: It is isn't it! Don't deny he didn't come back. I saw you with him! You were so in love!
D: No, it's not that at all, we're just friends. Nothing more. Anyways, we're talking about you here.
L: Correction, we were talking about me but now we're talking about you. Forget about Michael, you're right. There's no reason to get worked up about him if I barely even know him. We just started dating a few days ago anyways!
D: I will beat up Michael if he does anything, even the smallest thing, that breaks your heart or hurts you! I can promise that.
L: Haha! Thanks. But don't try to change the topic! I saw Gabe catch you. It was really cute the way you two looked at each other.
D: You saw that?... Well... it's not what you think. I didn't even know who he was at the time! Anyways we are JUST FRIENDS!! How many times do I have to say that?!!
L: Sorry...
D: Oh my... I'm so sorry Lindsey! I don't know what got into me!
L: That's ok. Love is a strong thing. You can't chose or avoid where it takes you.
D: Shut up.
L: Just saying..
There was silence for a while. Then I remembered the reason why I called.
D: Hey Lindsey?
L: Still here...
D: I don't think I'll be going to the movies today once I get home.
L: Why?
D: Gabe wants to get ice cream. And, please, don't start.
L: I won't, although you know I want to. Michael really wanted to go to the movies and his parents didn't want him to go alone with me. You need to come.
D: Can't we go tonight?
L: Sorry, we already got the tickets. I bought them just a few minutes ago online, sorry.(Lindsey gets picked up by her parents after school so she was already home. Sometimes I wish I got picked up too or that I could drive.)
D: If only you'd of listened to me when I first called you. You cut me off!
L: Yeah, sorry about that.
D: It's ok. Oh no!
L: What?!?
D: I was supposed to meet Gabe after school at my locker!
L: That's a problem!
D: I know! Good thing I have his number. We made sure we had each other's numbers so we didn't lose contact again.
L: Good idea
D: Yeah. Talk to you later!
L: I hope for the best with you and Gabe. You two lovebirds!
D: What did I say about that?
L: Sorry, can't help it! Well.. see yah.
D: k
L: Bye
D: Bye
...
I texted Gabe right after I hung up. I'm sure you're sick of me having so many conversations so I'll just sum it up. He understood and we agreed we'd meet up at Dotty's after I saw the movie. Gabe asked if Lindsey had an extra ticket so he could go. So I texted Lindsey and she said she didn't and all the seats near them were already filled. She wasn't gonna let me sit somewhere else. I told Gabe and he said that it was fine. I told Gabe goodbye and by then, the bus had arrived at my house. Josh and I got off.
Also, if you're wondering about the group of kids that makes fun of my name, I found a seat in the front of the bus! None of my other older siblings ride the bus. They can all drive. Josh only rides the bus because his friends do and he doesn't want me to feel lonely since if I was the only Meadow sibling on the bus. As I turned back to look at the bus to wave to the driver, I saw the old lady again on the corner near the bus stop! Either I had just walked right by her or she had just appeared. I suddenly remembered the note. Where had it gone?
Josh obviously didn't notice the old lady. I saw him wave to the driver with me but when he looked at the bus stop and looked back at the house he didn't seem to hesitate. Did he not notice?
When we got to the garage door we opened it, closed it behind us, and went into the house through the garage door. We do this so Max doesn't get out. Speaking of Max, when we went in the house, a giant ball of fluff launched at my face. Max isn't a super big dog but he isn't small either. We aren't sure what breed he is. We got him at a shelter a few years back. My family's really into saving things whether it's leftovers from yesterday's dinner or a dog named Max. Anyways, Max didn't get very close to my face and fell down. He was fine;) Josh and I petted Max for a bit and then I put down my book bag, washed my hands, and opened the door again.
"Where you going?" Josh asked.
"To the movies with Lindsey. Sorry I didn't tell you. I must of forgot."
"That's ok. Mom and dad said there's nothing going on tonight. You have homework?"
"Surprisingly, no. I got it done in class....we had some free time."
" Good, well, I'll text mom and dad and tell them.
"K. Thanks Josh. You're the best!"
"I already knew that, but thanks anyway." He gave me that smirk brothers give to their siblings when they're being super full of themselves and overconfident. I just ignored his comment.
"See ya!"
"Bye," Josh replied. I closed the door behind me and opened the garage, closed it behind me, and walked to the movies because luckily, they weren't that far away. Unlike Gabe who left for a long time. It's basically a miracle that I ever got to see him again. Then remembered my conversation with Lindsey. I wondered, could me and Gabe ever be together? Nah, I thought, we're just friends.
Another weight lifted of my already heavy shoulders. With Lindsey's "what ifs" about Michael, the crazy lady, how sly and familiar Michael is, the missing note, and my now dead grandma, there was no room for anything else.
Here's chapter 5! What do you think of Michael? What about the reappearance of the crazy old lady? To find out more, keep reading!!:D
