Chapter 17: One Heck Of A Storm

I woke up feeling very disoriented. I had no idea where I was or how I had gotten there. In fact, I hadn't even opened my eyes yet. I felt relaxed and I honestly didn't want to move.

I felt snug since something warm was wrapped around me that was keeping me in place down on the towel. Wait...towel? I tried to get up but was stopped by whatever was wrapped around me. I looked down and noticed something around my stomach. An arm? Then I turned my head, Gabe's arm.....

I had forgotten about him. He was laying next to me, still fast asleep. His arm wrapped around my waist. Maybe he does like me.... I thought. No... there's no way. I'm not listening to Jade. He's just a friend. He couldn't possibly like me....right?

Okay, I was done thinking about this. Now, I have to attempt another challenge.....getting up. I reached down to gently grab Gabe's arm, pulling it up. Too bad for me that it was also underneath me. I kept pulling and tried rolling over but nothing was working. Eventually I just gave up and decided to wake up Gabe.

"Gabe!" I said, quietly at first. But he didn't budge. "Gabe!!" Again, a little louder, this time tapping him a couple times. Again, no response. At this point I was done. I gave up and my patience was running out. "Gabe wake up!!!" I shouted, shaking him from side to side. This time, I got a response.

"Ughh......No mom....just five more minutes...." he murmured back.

"Come on get up, you're trapping me with your arm."

"What?.......no im not....."

"Yes, you are.... come on can you please just move your arm?"

"Sure whatever. Wait what arm?" Finally, a conscious response.

"The arm on my waist," I said matter of factly, pointing to it. He lifted his head up slightly to see what I was pointing to.

"Oh sorry...." he replied, blushing.

"Yeah you should be....I couldn't get up!" I laughed.

"Sorry, I wasn't thinking."

"No you're fine.....seriously. I forgive you."

"Aww...yay. I'm so glad," he said smiling. I just rolled my eyes. His sweetness wasn't going to work on me this time. I just rolled my eyes and laughed, bored out of my mind. Suddenly I heard a sound from beside me.

"Good morning love birds," the voice said. "How'd you sleep? Did you cuddle? Was it super romantic?" The voice giggled. Jade, I thought. It was most definitely Jade.

"Whatever Jade. I've already told you a million times. Your dreams of me and Gabe are never happening." Honestly though, I was less and less sure of that as the days went on. I mean not that I liked him obviously I didn't like him he just liked me. Right?

"Whatever you say Daisy, whatever you say...." Again, I just rolled my eyes. It was quiet for only a few seconds until Gabe opened his mouth.

"So.... what are we doing today Tía Susan? Any more escaping or blood shed?" Everyone just stared at him. Was he seriously making a joke about that? Also why call Susan tía that was just flat out weird. I thought he didn't remember any Spanish.

"First off seriously why are you joking about that, those are some terrible events that happened that I wish we never had to go through. And secondly, I thought you said you forgot all your Spanish," yes I basically just restated that.

"Sorry, I was just trying to lighten the mood. I obviously didn't help much. And about the Spanish I only remember some of it. Especially in the spur of the moment." I looked back at him with a look of anger and disapproval. Of course he was sorry, but you don't just joke about events like that or lie about stuff. During the incident at the movie theater, I lost my best friend. My best friend since like first grade. She meant everything to me and still does even though I know that there is no way she will ever forgive me for my actions. Even if they were just self defense. I love her so much and honestly, right now, I could really use her comfort. Her guidance. Her always being there whenever I was struggling or going through a tough time. Her being there always even just to listen. My grandmother had only died a few days ago and I miss her so very much. I have no idea how I'm going to survive without her.
