I have no clue where Carter gets his ideas. I mean fake dating? He must really want to win this whole homecoming thing.

Homecoming is in about 2 weeks, but Carter wanted me to go buy my dress this week. Seriously, he sounds like a girl with all this planning and dedication.

The only problem with this whole "fake dating" thing, is that girls will A) ask me how sweet he is, or B) try to kill me with their looks. I mean and I knew what I was getting into, but come on, he's just a hormonal teenage boy!

My mind instantly ends up going to last night's incident. Nothing involving Carter, but it just hurts. I feel that what they did was because of him, but-.

I was outed of my daydream, when Alexis opened my room door.

    "Hey girlie, watcha doin?"

"Just contemplating the idea of me and Carter "dating"." I say quickly, without facing her.

"Oh," was all Alexis said.

"Yup." We sat there in silence until Alexis piped up again.

"So, umm, what's got you in a mood?"

"I'm not in a mood," I respond.

"Amelia, you are never this quiet,"

"Maybe I just want to be alone right now," I whisper.

"You know I'm here for you. I know everyone always says that, but I'm your shoulder to cry on. I'm your 2 am phone calls. I'm your best friend," Alexis says.

"Can I please be alone for now," I mumble.

I feel Alexis staring at me, but I hide my face from her. I don't need her knowing what happened last night. I don't need her to feel sympathetic towards me. I just need to be alone.

The bed shifts as Alexis gets up. I see her shadow moving out of the corner of my eye, and she walks out.

Walking into school feels as if I'm entering hell. I mean everyone must know about what happened. I think people are staring at me, but I'm not sure.

"Hey," a voice says, with a tap on the shoulder. I turn towards the voice, and find Carter with a concerned look on his face. "Are you okay?"

"I'm not sure," I say.

"Do you want to go somewhere?"

"I'm not sure,"

"Come on. You're not fit to come to school today," Carter says as he envelopes me in a hug. I don't even try to push away from him.

Out of all the people in this world, I never thought that the one to help me would be Carter.

We end up at Sparks, a burger joint near school. Honestly, I'm not even worried at the fact that I'm missing school. Correction, ditching school.

Carter and I are sitting in a booth facing each other. He didn't speak on the way here, and he hasn't mentioned anything yet.

The waiter comes and I don't even pay attention to her. I don't even hear what Carter orders.

"Amelia, what happened yesterday?"

"I- I don't wanna talk about it," I get out.

"Is it because of me?" Carter questions.

I simply nod, and I hear Carter take a sharp breath.

"Was it Mackenzie?" He asks.

"I don't know," I mutter. "I just heard the noise and went outside."

"And?"

"It was there. I mean I- I saw the car drive away, but I didn't see who."

"But what was it Amelia? Everyone is saying different things. I want to know what happened." Carter says.

"It was some stupid prank," I mutter.

"It's not stupid. They hurt you and I wanna know what happened," he says.

"I don't want to talk about it anymore," I say.

Carter stands up from the table, and begins heading towards the door.

"Carter where are you going?" I say, loudly. He turns and faces me, and I see that his face is a mix of anger and sadness.

He slowly heads back towards the table and sits down. Betty, our waitress, comes and sets the food Carter ordered down.

"What were you going to do," I ask.

Carter has an angry look, and it's kind of scaring me. I've never been a violent type, but Carter seems to have been overcome with rage.

"I don't know," he says. I see his shoulders begin to relax, and his face begins to soften. "I'm sorry."

"It's alright," I say. "Just don't do that again, okay?"

"Alright," he answers.

Carter and I didn't head back to school. We went out to the mall to look for dresses. Carter wanted for me to "find the perfect dress". Honestly, as long as it wasn't orange I was okay.

So far, we'd been in three stores, and I've tried on about 8 dresses but none seemed to meet Carter's expectations.

"I don't know about the color," Carter critiques.

I was currently trying on a lavender colored dress, but Carter didn't seem to like it.

"I'm thinking more of a red, or maybe even a black." He says.

"Really? I was thinking navy blue is more my color."

"I don't know. What's the theme again?"

"Starry night, I think?"

"That's honestly so clichéd," Carter says in a girly voice. I can't help it, I laugh. Carter grins so stupidly that I can't help but blush.

"Maybe the next store will have a dress," I say.
