"Amelia, I don't know why you're freaking out. You have a hot date, you are on the homecoming court, and you'll be looking great tonight," Alexis told me as I was currently freaking out.
"No you don't get it. After I kissed Carter last night, I walked away! You have no idea how awkward today is going to be," I respond.
"What's the worst that could happen? He starts liking you and tries to kiss you again? To me that's a plus."
"Well don't you find it weird that we've made this whole fiasco, and the we're going to break up like next week?" Once the words left my mouth, I knew I'd made a mistake. Carter had let me tell Alexis about our "fake relationship", but I guess I never really got to telling her.
"WAIT! Hold up. You guys are breaking up next week? Why do you say that? You guys are like the it couple at school. He's the Maxon to your America, the Peeta to your Katniss, the Four to your Tris! Why are you guys breaking up? You complete him! He completes y-,"
"Alexis stop. Take a breath." She looked at me with expecting eyes. I had to decide whether or not to tell her. I took a shaky breath and began to explain. "I don't know; I just don't think he's that interested."
Alright, I didn't exactly tell her the truth, but it was partially true. I mean, if he truly wanted to go out, he'd have asked by now. Not knowing what to say, Alexis let out a loud sigh and gave me a glare.
"Now what did I do?" I question.
"You better not break up with him just because you think he's not interested. He had to be head over heels. Plus, if he hurts you, well he won't see the light of day anymore."
"I know Alexis, just chill. I don't know what will happen," I say quietly.
"Well I do." I look at her and wait. "You guys are going to live happily together and have little Carter's and Amelia's. You'll even name one of them Alexis," she said.
"Let's just hope I make it through the night without falling."
"True. Now what're we gonna do with this hair?"
~.~
It was currently 5, and Carter said he was on his way. I hadn't put on my dress, since Alexis decided we should watch Netflix after she did my hair. We weren't paying attention to the time, but next thing I know, halfway through the Wildcats singing about the status quo, Joey comes in asking me what time Carter was coming.
"Come on Alexis, I need help zipping the dress up." I tell Alexis right when we hear the doorbell. My eyes widen and I look at her with pleading eyes.
"He can wait 5 minutes," she states simply.
"I don't want to leave him out there with Joey!"
"All boyfriends have to get interrogated by the male figure of the house. It's like some unspoken rule. Plus, they're good friends. They're probably talking about football or something."
"Okay, just come in zip me up."
"Oh, right." Alexis zips me up and I turn and look at her. "Now what shoes are you wearing?"
Shoes! I knew I was forgetting something.
"No, do not tell me you forgot your shoes."
"Yeah, I did," I say with a wobbly smile.
"Let's see what you have in your closet then," she says, exasperated.
A minute later, I'm all dressed and ready to go. As I'm about to head out of my room, Alexis goes to the door to try and listen what Joey and Carter are discussing.
What are they saying? I mouth to her.
Nothing.
I take that as an all clear to open my door and begin my way to the living room. Once I enter, Joey and Carter instantly stand up. They're both in tuxes, but the way the suit fits Carter leaves me speechless.
It hugs him tightly, and compliments his body nicely. It's all black and so is the tie. He looks more like he's going to Prom then homecoming. But leave it to Carter to try and outshine everyone.
The way he's staring at me makes me blush, and Alexis decides to step in and interrupt the silence in the room.
"Let's take some pictures!" She says all excited.
Carter walks over to me and places one of his arms around my shoulder, while I wrap an arm around his waist. I can feel his toned body in the suit, and can't help but start blushing.
"You look lovely," he whispers in my ear. This makes me blush even more and I can't help but think that I look like a tomato.
"You clean up nice," I say, looking at him through the corner of my eye.
"So I've been told," he says with a wink.
"Alright lovebirds, stay still so I can get some good pictures." Alexis says, which causes me to start blushing again.
After what seems like forever, Alexis decides she's satisfied with the pictures she's taken. She tells me that she'll see me at the dance and to have fun. As Carter and I are about to leave, Joey comes up to me and wraps me in a hug.
"I'm so proud of you. I'll see you there." He says. I hug him even tighter, and finally let go of him. "Be safe, Wilson." Joey looks at Carter and nods.
I grab Carter's hand, and we walk out of the house to his car. He kindly opens the door for me, which reminds me of when he did that the first time. It was only 4 weeks ago, but it seems like another lifetime.
"Thanks," I say.
"No problem." Carter walks to the other side and gets in. "You really look nice Amelia. I hope you know how much it means to me for you to be going with me."
"Thanks," I say, so quietly I'm not sure he heard.
"Now are you ready to go experience homecoming?" Carter says as he begins to drive.
"Yes," I say with a toothy grin.
