Let your heart sweet heart be your compass when you’re lost
Aleks clenched his fists, and ducked around the guy.
“Hey! Faggot! Get back here!” Aleks ignored him, and walked off into the darkness. He ducked around tree branches, and around large trunks. After thirty feet away from the bar, he sank down to the ground, and stared at the stars which were barely visible between the trees. A tear fell, and soon what seemed like hundreds followed.
“Eddie where the hell are you?”
Eddie sighed, fingering his locket. He turned back to the building, and started back to building.
“You alright Ed?” He looked down at Jordan, and sighed.
“No.” Jordan climbed up beside the depressed man.
“Hey, we’ll find him. Don’t worry. I’m sure Aleks is fine.”
No matter what, you’ll never be alone.
A howl pierced the night, making Aleks flinch. He looked up at the sky. Should he stop? No. Eddie was waiting for him. It was his fault that he had wandered away. His fault that he’d been captured. He’d gotten away, but now it seemed like he wasn’t getting anywhere. Aleks stopped and pulled the golden locket out from under his shirt. They let him keep his locket, which made no sense. They’d been able to strip him of everything, his phone, his clothes, everything. But the locket. He had grabbed a set of plain clothes from the kidnappers when he left. He flicked it open, and to his surprise, a glowing orb floated out. Aleks blinked in the harsh light. It was humming, some song that he didn’t recognize. It rolled slowly away, and paused, as if it was waiting for him. Aleks slowly started after it, and his pace slowly increased. Soon he was running after it, leaping over logs and weaving around the trees. Only one thing was on his mind. Eddie
We’re really not that far apart.
Aleks. Eddie shot up in bed, his heart racing. He had the worst dream. Aleks had been beaten, stabbed, and tortured in every way Eddie knew possible. At the end, Aleks had looked up, and stared him in the eye, uttering a single word. Why? It shook Eddie to the bone. He rolled out of bed, and Chef trotted up to him, nudging his legs.
“Not now Cheffy.” Eddie muttered, walking like a zombie into his kitchen. He put on the kettle, and hoisted himself up onto the counter, and leaned against the cabinets. He caught a glimpse of himself in the reflection from the microwave. Dark circles had appeared under his eyes in the last four weeks, and his skin looked waxy and pale. His face looked distorted in the reflection. The whistling of the kettle intruppted his thoughts. Eddie hopped down, and poured himself a cup of decaf tea. No point in drinking coffee now anyways. He went back to sitting on the counter again, the cup of tea in one hand. He took a sip then winced. Heat flooded his mouth, but seemed to travel down to his chest, and stay there, burning hot. He glanced down, and his eyes widened. The locket was shivering. He put down his tea, and popped it open. An orb of light floated out of the locket, and hovered in his face. He stared at it. It slowly came closer, until it touched his chest, right over his heart. The heat suddenly became unbearable. Then visions flashed in front of his eyes. Aleks crawling away from a whip, huddling in a corner in a tattered shirt, and a pair of ripped shorts. The heat seared again, and he saw Aleks running in fear through a heavily wooded area, ducking bullets. Then he saw the two of them, lying on the couch together. Visions of the two of them together flashed in front of his eyes.
“Eddie! Come on wake up!” His eyes opened, and he found Jordan and James hovering over him worriedly.
“What?”
“You were lying here like a dead man.” Eddie’s hand went to his chest, and he clutched the locket, which was still warm.
“I’m fine. I’m gonna go up to my room.” Chef snuffled his face, and licked his cheek. “Thanks Cheffy.” Eddie walked up the stairs, catching snippets of his friends worried conversation. Instead of going into his room, he took a sharp left and walked into Aleks room.
“Aleks where are you?” He said, his voice muffled by Aleks’s pillow.
“Sir, are you alright?Sir!” A voice seemed to shout in Aleks’s ears. He struggled to open his eyes, and surprisingly found a policeman crouching beside him. He looked about for the glowing light, but it was gone. He groaned, and closed his eyes again.
“Calling base, I need an ambulance at my location, we found him.” How long had it been since he went missing? An ambulance wailed in the distance, and the policeman shook him. “Come on buddy, stay awake.” Aleks winced as the man put pressure on one of the bruises, and waved him away. A screech of tires, people calling out orders. Aleks blacked out.
“Oh my f@#$%ing god.” He heard a horrified voice say. Aleks opened his eyes slowly, finding a white ceiling. He looked about, and his eyes landed on the only person he’d been looking for.
“Eddie.” He breathed, trying to sit up. His back ached, along with what seemed like every single bone in his body. Eddie sobbed, rushing over to Aleks’s bedside. Aleks threw his arms around Eddie.
“Oh my god.” Eddie choked out.
“I’m here, I’m here.”
