The first thing Jason heard when he landed, was sobbing. He peeked around a tree, and saw a teen boy with cat ears, and a tail. He folded his white wings to his back, and crept forward.
“Are you okay?” The boy’s head snapped up, and he backed up, fear on his face. Jason stopped, and sat on the ground.
“I won’t hurt you.” The boy stopped, and breathed a sigh of relief. Jason took a moment to examine him. His clothes, which once were a white shirt with a black collar, grey jeans and a set of headphones. Now they were all covered in ashes, scorch marks and the headphones were broken around his neck. Jason felt nervous. This boy wasn’t from the Nether was he? His kind were forbidden to associate with any creature from the Nether.
“What’s your name?” The boy spoke.
“Jason. Yours?”
“Tyler, Ty for short.” Jason nodded, and sank down next to him. Ty flinched again, but didn’t move away.
“Where did you come from?”
“The Nether. You?”
“Aether.” Ty nodded solemnly, and they sat in silence again.
“What’s your favorite color?” The rest of the afternoon went like that, asking random questions. As the sun set, Jason bid Ty goodbye, and flew home, a bit giddy.
“What’s up Jason!” Mitch called, waving to him. Jason waved back, and dropped down at his doorstep.
“Hi mom.” He gave her a kiss on the cheek, and sat down.
“You seem happy.”
“I met a new friend down in the OverWorld.” His dad looked up sharply.
“He wasn’t from the Nether was he?” Jason stared at his dad in shock.
“N-no, he wasn’t” Jason lied. His dad nodded, satisfied. His mom put a couple more plates on the table, before sitting down herself.
“Dig in everyone.”
Jason visited Ty every day after that, not telling his parents anything else about Ty, except that he was a nice boy, and his general appearance, minus the cat ears and tail. They seemed to spend every waking moment together, and it was almost a year later, that Jason realized he was falling in love with the boy from the Nether.
“Hey Jason?”
“Hmm?” Jason glanced over at Ty, to find him running his hands over Jason’s soft wings.
“Can we run away?” Jason stared at him in shock.
“What?”
“Ya know, run away, get away from all this negativity about the Nether and Aether.”
“But the nether is always there, and so is the aether.” Jason pointed out. Ty sat up glaring at Jason.
“You don’t want to escape this shit? You don’t want us to be friends?!” Jason looked down.
“I don’t want to be friends, I want to be more. I love you. And yes I want to get out of here. Do you know how many times I almost flew away? But its you thats made me stay. All you. You act like I have the perfect life, I’m to one who is an angel. I’m not that good angel like you thought Ty. Not now.” Jason had gotten to his feet, glaring angrily down at Ty. The hybrid was shockedint silence, and Jason spread his wings.
“Don’t bother looking for me, if you ever do leave.” Jason said bitterly, and launched himself in the air.
Jason POV
That was a year ago. I’m still tearing my hair out for that decision. My heart breaks every time I look in the mirror, and see my wings. I tried to saw them off, resulting in screaming, blood, and feathers covering my entire home. My neighbors, of course, rushed me to a hospital, and I survived. My skin had become pale in the last year, scars of my mad moments shining brightly to the world. A couple of my neighbors, like Mitch and Jerome, who had followed me, came in and checked on me twice a day, to make sure I was still alive. I can’t get why they still do it. My door creaked open, and I groaned.
“Mitch, Jerome, go away. I haven’t killed myself in the last hour.” I called.
“Kill yourself?” A voice choked, and I twisted around on the couch, trying to see the door. Ty stood in the door way. A beanie covered his head, and most likely his ears as well, and his pants were very baggy.
“Ty?” I whispered. “No. No its not you. I’m hallucinating again.” I muttered, pressing the heels of my hands on my eyes. A weight suddenly was on the couch, and arms were wrapped around me. I sobbed, leaning into Ty’s chest.
“I’m sorry. I’m soo sorry.” I cried, tears streaming down my face. Ty just shushed me, rocking the both of us back and forth. We stayed like that for ours. I pulled away, and looked him over in the moonlight. His eyes were bloodshot, large bags under his eyes. His hair looked like it hadn’t been washed in weeks, and I could feel his ribs. He reached around me, and fingered my wings.
“What did you do to yourself?” Ty murmured, his fingers brushing the scars. I tightened my grip on him.
“I was broken.” Ty lifted my chin, forcing me to look him in the eyes.
“That means I have to fix you know, doesn’t it?” I gave him a watery smile, and he leaned forward, pressing a kiss on my lips.
