Abby watched sadly as Adam walked past her.

"Lover boy come in yet?" Leah asked, flipping through her clipboard. Abby sighed in for him, and nodded.

"Just came in." Leah sighed, and slumped in a chair.

"His husband isn't going to make it." Abby frowned at the amount of scorn put into the word 'husband'.

"What's wrong with gay marriage?" Leah shrugged, glancing around the empty hospital halls.

"They're too young for it." Abby snorted.

"You know nothing about forever then. You have no idea what they did before he landed here." Abby stood, and walked off towards the cafeteria.

"Oi! Where are you going?!" Leah shouted after her.

"Getting some coffee. Watch the desk!" Abby shouted back, and walked away.

Instead of taking a right, Abby took a sharp left and hurried down a second hall before stopping outside a room. Two men occupied it. One lay on the bed, pale and frail. The other knelt beside him, tears streaming down his face.

"They don't know about the things we do, they don't know about the I love yous. But I betcha if only they knew, they would just be jealous of us."

Abby's hands clamped over her mouth as she listened to Adam sing. He sounded heartbroken. She backed up and fled

Adam stopped singing, and glanced up at the doorway. Heels clipped away at a fast pace from Ian's room. He wiped away a tear, and turned back to Ian. Adam gripped his hand tightly, and let out a watery chuckle.

"Who'd ever thought One Direction could describe us, huh?" He spoke to empty air, his brown eyes finding Ian's closed blue ones.

"Sir? Sir." A hand was roughly shaking him awake. Adam groaned and looked up. A blonde nurse hovered over him. He hurriedly glanced at her name tag. Abby. He remembered her no.

"What's up?" He muttered, and took in his surroundings. Ian's bed was gone. Panic rose in his throat. "Where's Ian?" Her expression flashed to one of sadness, before it went blank.

"Come with me Adam. You need some rest." Adam sighed, and ran a hand through his lifeless locks.

"Okay." Abby smiled, and he followed her out of the room.

She brought him to a staff room that had a large couch in it. A thick duvet sat on the corner along with a real pillow.

"I take naps in here when I'm on my night shifts. I thought you would need some sleep." Adam sat down on the bed slowly, and then looked back up at her hopeful face.

"Where's Ian?" Her facade crumbled, and she sighed. Abby sunk into the seat beside him, fingering the edge of her maroon scrubs.

"He's in surgery. He'll be out in the morning. By then we should know if it helped him." Adam's heart sunk, and he nodded slowly. Abby gave him a side arm hug.

"Just call me if you need me. The extension number is on the table." With that Abby left. Adam took a deep breath, pulled the duvet up around him. and let himself drift into sleep.

"Adam?" He wished he never even woke up. Abby stared at him, tear tracks evident on her cheeks. He sat bolt upright on the couch, his eyes wide.

"Ian's dead..."

Time seemed to slow down, and Adam stared at the nurse.

"I'm sorry," she mumbled. Adam nodded, holding back tears.

"I'll leave you alone.." she said quietly, exiting the room and shutting the door behind her. Adam stared at the floor, trying ot process what she'd said. Ian, his Ian, was dead.

"Adam, come on. You'll get over him soon. We're worried about you." Jason tried to coax Adam out of bed, but all he got was a murderous glare

"You didn't know how special he was, what he did to me. You guys say what ever you want, but you never knew about us." Adam dove back into under the covers, and stiffled his sobs.

Ian was buried a couple weeks later. Adam didn't attend, only because he was in the hospital himself. Two weeks after that, he died as well. Abby the nurse found him clutching a picture in his hand, along with a set of lyrics.

"They don't know about the up all nights. They don't know I've waited all my life, just to find a love that feels just right. Baby they don't know about, they don't know about us"
