Chase's POV
Walking with heavy steps, I headed towards the kitchen where Dianna would be. Just as I was about to push the curtain that separates the kitchen from the living room aside, I heard laughter echoed around the kitchen. They were talking so loud that I could easily hear their conversation.
"Did not!" Dianna was protesting to whatever claim that someone else laid on her.
"Did too! You were practically drooling after him!" Tara, a distant cousin of mine, mimic her tone and pouted back. Immediately, fresh peals of laughter broke out. I grinned. I could imagine Dianna blushing at Tara's reply.
"Dianna and Chase sitting on a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G!" Kerrie sang out. More feminine giggles erupted. This time, I decided to rescue my Dianna from her 'tormentors'.
Brushing the curtains aside, I strolled into the kitchen.
"Who do you people think you are? Bullying my Dianna?" And I went up to Dianna and wrapped my arms around her, holding her close to me. Taking in a deep breathe, I draw her delicious scent into my lungs. Wolf rumbled his pleasure at being near our mate again.
The girls, Cass, Kara, Kerrie, laughed an embarrass short laugh. Dianna ducked her head and I know that she is blushing even more now. And I found myself smiling smugly. My little mate may look and act all shy and humble, but in actual, she had quite a bit of spine when it comes to me. I remembered how she scolded me when I snugged into her room by climbing up into her room the second time instead of walking in through the front door. Just to annoy her even further, I even left through the window. I can even remember clearly what she said after she got over the shock of seeing me jump out of the window.
'You better remember what I say! My room is on the second floor and since you are always coming here every night, I can promise you that one of the days, you'll break your bones! If it ever happens, don't ever come crying to me because you aren't getting anything other than a 'I told you so'!'
Giving the girls present a look, I gestured for them to leave me and Dianna alone. Getting the message, the girls started making all sorts of excuses to leave.
"So, what do you want to say to me?" Dianna asked with a smile. At my shock look, she laughed and said, "Did you truly think that I was that oblivious? All the girls suddenly deciding to go somewhere else at the same time?"
I grinned at her, caught between chagrin and pride. Turning serious, I told her, "There...there is something I want to discuss with you. It's about tonight's event where I am supposed to formally introduce you to everyone in my pack and my father's pack."
Fear flashed in her face and her heart picked up speed. "They don't want me to be the alpha's mate, right?" Her voice trembled and she looked as if she was going to cry any minute.
"No! They care for you!" I quickly said. "It's something else..."
"They want me to be able change into a werewolf?" Dianna asked, her face uncertain.
"Don't look so scared. I have many pack members who are like you, a half human and half werewolf. They cannot shift into wolf either. They are not going to not accept you just because you can't shift." I said soothingly. "It's just my father...He...he has just informed me that even thought this is the first time I am going to formally introduce you to the pack, the pack are...are truly expecting us to not just be mate in name. THEY WANT ME TO MARK YOU DURING THIS GATHERING!"
