Sorry if this chapter is a bit crappy!
I hope you like the song on the side, I just thought it went really well with the plot :)
'Somewhere' by Within Temptation."We have to be quick though. The Witch, will get her guards to track the rest of ya." Mr Beaver panted, as we continued to run back to the Beaver's house, through the thick snow. It had stopped snowing now and the moon shone through the sky. Running as quickly as I could, I heard echoing behind me, it was very faint. Hearing the echoing again, it was no cry of any human, they were wolves. "Hurry mother! They're after us!" Mr Beaver yelled to his wife, barging through the door. Mrs Beaver jumped, before scavenging through the cupboards groping for food and other knickknacks.
"You'll be thanking me later. It's a long journey and Beaver gets pretty cranky when he's hungry," Mrs Beaver commented, carrying food in her hands. I decided to help her along with Susan, laying the necessary items onto the table and stuffing them into a sack.
"I'M CRANKY NOW!" Mr Beaver shouted.
"Do you think we need jam?" asked Susan. Is that question really crucial right now Susan?!
"Only if the Witch has toast!" Peter scoffed, frustrated. Suddenly, growls and barking surrounded the little house. The intruders are here. The wolves tried to get in by tearing the house apart.
"FOLLOW ME!" yelled Mr. Beaver, standing by a hatch, before quickly disappearing into a hole in the ground. Following him, I found myself in a secret underpass. And one by one we all ran through the secret passage, Mr. Beaver leading the way.
Trailing behind Peter and Lucy, Lucy got her foot caught in a root, causing her to fall over into the dirt. There was a long pause, barks and howls rang.
"They're in the tunnel." Lucy whispered, frightened.
"Quick this way!" Mr Beaver yelled. I picked up Lucy hastily, holding her by my side. From then we continued in the dark, mysterious tunnel that reeked of wet and moist dirt. I began to count how many times I had tripped. Two times already!
Turning a yet another corner, we halted at a dead end. "You should have brought a map!" Mrs. Beaver shrieked in frustration. 3 times.
"There wasn't room next to the jam!" Mr. Beaver called back. Five times.
He then jumped up into a hole in the roof and all of us followed behind him. Crawling out of the hole, I was surrounded by snow once more and freezing temperature smashed me.
I looked around in horror at what lay before my eyes. Statues of animals, fear written all over their faces. A tear streamed down my cheek as a stared with sympathy. The poor innocent lives of these animals had been taken away, all because oh her. I hated seeing animals in pain, let alone seeing people hurt. It killed me inside. Whenever I was venturing through the forest back in England, I would help the injured animals. I have a unusual emotional bond with animals, they give me comfort. I dragged myself beside Peter and Susan, pain surging through my empty heart.
"What happened here?" asked Peter.
"This is what becomes of those who cross the Witch." A fox spoke appearing out of nowhere. Peter to pulled Lucy, Susan and I behind him. Putting his arms around us for protection.
"You take one more step traitor and I'll chew you to splinters!" Mr. Beaver shouted furiously.
"Relax, I'm one of the good guys." the fox chuckled. I tried to get out of Peter's grip but he wouldn't budge. I rolled my eyes in defeat.
"Yeah?! Well you look an awful like one of the bad ones." said Mr. Beaver.
"An unfortunate family resemblance. But we can argue breeding later." I chuckled at the fox's comment. "But right now we've got to move!" he finished. I could see no lie in his eyes.
