Aiko's pen twirled around her fingertips, staring out the classroom window at the warm sunny afternoon sky. Her mind drifted off too easily, thinking of Koru. She had been thinking of him a lot lately: as soon as Aiko had given up on study, as soon as she found herself alone in her thoughts on the way to school, as soon as she left those sleepless conversations to catch up on lost hours - he would pop into her mind. Too much for my own good? Aiko thought otherwise - she loved Koru more than anything.
And yet, that wasn't going to help her solve the maths questions lying in front of her - damn all these rates, she thought, scribbling down the working out. Before she knew it, the school bells rang that familiar tune - the next period. She packed up her books, getting ready to depart when a picture flowed out from her blazer pocket. She bent over to pick it up; it was a sleeping Koru, a screenshot she had lifted from him while they had been video calling - he looked so adorable, it was impossible to resist. She sighed, replacing the photo back in its proper place, where it belonged - close to her heart.
Aiko's heart was melting before she even left those school gates. She was eagerly waiting - waiting to pick up her phone and call him straight away. Was it routine? Habit? Addiction?
No, she thought, smiling to herself.
It was love.
