When I woke up the first thing I realized was that it was bloody cold. I rubbed my arms, trying to rid myself of the goosebumps, but soon gave up. I looked at my surroundings and gasped, what the heck? It looked like I was in some kind of dungeon, but that was unbelievable, there was no way that people were kept in cells with black brink walls, with god knows what on the floor. I wrinkled my nose and decided to stay on the uncomfortable bed that squeaked whenever I moved.
"Were am I?" I whispered to myself, cringing back as it echoed around the room. I felt myself begin to panic and tried to take deep breaths.
"Hello?"
I yelped in fright as the male voice sounded out from nowhere and he laughed quietly, "Its okay."
"What the heck is going on?" I demanded and there was silence. Instead of answering my question however, he replied with, "do you believe in the supernatural?"
"No, of course not!" I shook my head even though he couldn't see me and quietly decided that no matter where I was, this guy was crazy.
"Why not?" He asked and I remained silent.
"Are you ignoring me? Really? I haven't had someone to talk to since about three to four years ago, I'm not really sure, I think I gave up on counting."
I frowned, starring at the wall to my right and trying to convince myself that this was a bad idea and that there was probably a reason he was locked in here. Like murder my idiot sub-conscience whispered to me and I shivered. Then again, I thought, I didn't know why I was in here. "Whats your name?" I ventured to ask and he sighed. "No one has really talked to me in a while, but my name used to be Owen. Yours?"
"Hayden."
"Nice name, so you have no idea whatsoever what your doing here? You don't remember anything?"
"No, of course I remember. But it doesn't make sense, I was going over to my friends' house after she got into a fight at school, I turned away for a second and she... No that didn't happen, that can't of happened. She's a good person, we've know each other for like, a year!"
"Whats her name?" He sounded faintly bored but I didn't care.
"Angeline, Angeline Paten," I muttered and then I jumped as he sounded slightly panicked.
"You hung out with Angeline Paten for a year?! You've got to be kidding me, and your human? How are you still alive?!"
"Um, I have no clue what your on about, just so you know." I heard a muffled sound and it took me a few seconds to realize he must be pacing around the cell next to mine. Neither of us talked for what seemed like ten minutes but then I couldn't hold it in anymore, "Owen, Why are you in here?"
Before he could answer I heard a muffled clanking sound and I yelled in desperation, "HELP! CAN SOMEONE HEAR ME, HELP!"
Owen hissed at me, "do you want to be killed?! Shut up and back away from the bars!"
I was so alarmed by the fright in his voice that I did what he said and backed away.
I could hear loud footsteps slowly coming towards us and I began to catch onto Owen's fear. A dark shape seemed to drift past the bars of my cell and I sighed in relieve as I thought it was gone. Then I heard a chain rattle from the cell next to mine and Owens' terrified voice cry out, "What do you want?! I didn't do anything I swear!" Suddenly his voice seemed strangely calm and he growled angrily, "if that's all you want, take it, and tell Her Highness that she can go to hell for all I care."
It was all silent for a few more minutes and I was too terrified to call out to him. Then suddenly I screamed as the thing appeared in front of my cell and just stood there. I was frozen on the spot and I could hardly breathe. It slowly pushed something through the bars and something soft fell to the floor. The thing was about to move away when I found my voice. "Hey! Your wearing a cloak? You're a human?"
They turned slowly back to the bars and this time I could just make out the outline of a face. They regarded me for a few seconds then completely disappeared.
"Owen! Are you okay?!" I called out and waited anxiously for an answer, there came a small mutter from the next cell.
"...Yeah, just great..."
"What happened?!" I demanded. I heard him groan through the wall, "It's okay they only took a little bit, she mustn't be that thirsty."
"What the bloody hell is that suppose to mean?! Who are they?...what... are they?"
He sighed and his bed springs squeaked as he sat down. "You really don't know anything about this? Anything at all?"
"No, tell me!" There was silence and I repeated softly, "please, tell me."
"Vampires, they're all vampires."
