When I walked through the door to Angeline's room I half expected to be thrown through a window or something. Angeline stood in front of a mirror wearing a simple white blouse and blue jeans. She turned to me, watching as I came over and stood in front of her. Jason had warned me against making her angry. So really I just had to suck up to her. To put it lightly.

As I waited I could feel the anxiety building up in my chest.

"You're lucky Jason didn't ask for you to be punished."

I sensed that the smartest thing to do was to remain silent.

"You stood up to two purebloods Hayden. You should be thankful you're alive."

I thought about how Angeline said that she only wanted a friend to keep her company and when she fought her brother to keep me safe. Maybe her being lonely was what was going to save me?

She seemed unsure of what to do. The vampire gestured to the adjoining room which belonged to me. "You should go get cleaned up. You smell."

I resisted making a sarcastic comment and practically slided towards the door.

Locking it behind me I looked around. Comparing it to my old room I had when I had a normal life. Would I ever really be able to go back to that?

I walked into the bathroom and shut it behind me.

"You have a break from your schedule today, only because there are still vampires from the party hanging around. We don't want you to run into any trouble."

"Yeah, wouldn't want that." I muttered into my sandwich.

She gave me an annoyed look across the table and I felt a flush of satisfaction. Yes, I had to tone it down a bit. But that didn't mean that I couldn't occasionally blow the wind out of her sails.

"What are you doing today?" I liked to think that it hadn't changed me, being here. But I knew bit by bit I was changing. Despite my best efforts. I knew that I was breaking. I had to get out as soon as possible. Thank god vampires couldn't read minds. They did have that strange ability to affect their surroundings. Such as the candles that blew out in the throne room. I wondered at the extents that could go to.

"I'm gonna sort out... Things... That are going on."

So many secrets in this world. I finished my sandwich and stood. After a moment I picked up her plate too and carried it to the sink. She stared at me.

"What?" My voice came out sharp and she decided against commenting.

"Stay inside today." The silence in the kitchen was pressing in like a storm cloud. Neither of us were going to bring up the subject of what had happened a few days ago. And I was happy about that.

"Sure, can I use your laptop?"

Angeline stood and walked out without saying anything.

"Thought not...." I muttered rolling my eyes and turning on the tap to wash the plates.

I closed the bedroom door behind me and leaned on it. An entire half day by myself. I smiled and walked into my room.

"Humans tend to sleep quite a lot, don't they?"

I yelped, nearly backing into a vase on a cabinet as I turned to face Jason who was making himself very at home on my bed.

"Get up."

He slouched back and I narrowed my eyes.

He grinned. Which took me aback. Jason grinning? Whaaaa?
