I was hyperventilating and sweating. It was cold...well I was cold. Aiden's hands were warm.
"Jesus Christ, you're so cold" Aiden said.
"Stay here" Aiden said. He walked out of my room. While he was out I silently cried in my hands -- just for a little bit, then I wiped them away. I never let anyone see me cry. When I was little, yeah, but now I was afraid if one tear came down they'd all come gushing out. That's why I barley cry anymore. Is that bad for me? I don't know.Aiden came back with a black hoodie. He held it out to me "Here."
"I'm fine. It was nothing" I said.
"Oh yeah, you screaming in the middle of night was nothing" he said sarcastically.
"It was" I lied.
"No it wasn't. I know it wasn't. Now, take the hoodie before I slip it on your forcefully" he threatend.
"You're threatening me with a hoodie?" I cocked an eyebrow at him. He sighed and pulled it over me.
"Hey! Fine!" I said. He let go and I put on the rest of the hoodie. It smelled like Tide detergent and some car parts. It wasn't a terrible smell. It smelled normal or guess.
"Happy?" I asked.
"Yes, now c'mon I made a fire downstairs" he said walking towards the door.
"What?" I asked.
"I made a fire...in the fireplace. I have a fireplace" he said.
"Oh, yeah" I got out of the bed and followed him downstairs. Okay, I knew he had a fireplace, but after a nightmare that had fire burning down a house in it, and after my experience it kinda sounded different. We walked downstairs to his den. It was enormous. I wondered where he got so much money in the first place? Probably making and selling stuff. Or fixing cars. I pushed my thoughts aside and sat on the couch. I looked up at the clock over his foreplace. It was three in the morning.
What kind of cruel joke are my fears playing on me?
Aiden sat beside me and handed me a cup of...what smelled like tea.
"What is this?" I asked.
"Tea" Aiden replied.
"What kind?" I asked.
"The kind that helps you sleep better" he said.
"Never had it" I stated.
"Drink it it's good" I looked at him.
"Fine" I took a sip. It wasn't that bad actually.
"Not bad" I took another sip.
"Are you going to tell me what you were screaming about or not?" He asked. I almost choked on my tea.
"I like the or not part" I sipped my tea again. Aiden turned his head towards me.
"You should talk about it, you know? It bad to keep that inside of you."
"Suddenly your a doctor now, huh?"
"Alice."
"Aiden." We had a stare down for a minute.
"Alice."
"Aiden."
"You should tell me."
"Rather not." We kept our eyes on each other.
"You need to tell me."
"I don't need to. And I don't want to."
Another pause.
"You're difficult."
"You're annoying."
"Deal with it."
"Trying to."
"Alice please, I promised Fa to take care of you."
"I don't need protection."
"No, but you need a partner who's got you back."
"No I don't."
"Yes you do, everyone does."
"I'm not telling you."
"My house my rules."
"My nightmare my rules."
"A nightmare about what?"
Oh my God I should've kept my mouth shut.
I looked straight at the fire and sipped my tea.
"Alice, please just tell me. I made a promise to help you-"
"I don't need help" I cut him off.
"Trying to get me to talk is not going to work" I sipped my tea once more.
"I'm going back to bed" I got up and put my cup in the sink. Aiden stood up and walked next to me. He leaned up against the counter.
"You're not going to bed, are you?" Aiden broke the silent pause between us.
"Yes I am. Please don't disturb me" I finished washing the dish and dried it off. I looked around.
"Where are the-?"
"I'm not telling you until you tell me about your nightmare" he pushed on.
I put the cup on the counter and used one arm to lean against it.
"You never stop, do you?" I asked.
"I made a promised" he said.
"As did I" at that moment I was about to cover my mouth. The urge to cover it was so strong that my hand actually shook.
"What?" Aiden asked.
"Nothing" I squeaked and ran upstairs. Aiden tried to grab my arm, but I walked too fast for him to. I went into my room, closed the door, and sat on my bed. I took a deep breath and exhaled. I fell back onto my bed.
"Me and my big mouth" I said to myself. I closed my eyes and tried to sleep. Did it work? Ha, nope! Of course not. It never does. I grabbed a blanket and went to the window seat. I almost forgot I still had his hoodie on. It was comfortable, don't get me wrong, but I wanted to take it off. Once I did, it was colder and I had to wrap the blanket around me tighter to keep warm. I looked at the stars. At least stars will stay with me forever. People can't stay forever. No one ever does anyway. I looked up at the stars.
"Stay with me forever" I said.
It seemed stupid talking to stars. What are the stars going to say back at you? But at least they stay forever.Aiden:
I knew she would be on the roof. That's where she said she was able to think better. I looked left to right outside my window. She wasn't on the roof.
Did she really go to bed? But she couldn't go to bed that quick. Not after a nightmare, I wondered.
I pulled the window down.
Maybe I should go to her room and knock. I'll go do that. I mean she couldn't be asleep. The tea takes a few hours, I thought. And started walking to her room. I knocked on the door three times.
"What is it Aiden?" She asked. She sounded sleepy. That has to be fake.
"I was just wondering if you were up" I said.
"I told you I was going to sleep" she said.
Yep that's definitely a fake sleepy tone.
"Stop faking it. I know you're not entirely sleepy" I said. I heard her walk up to the door. I stopped leaning on it and backed away a little. Alice opened the door.
"What?" She asked. She didn't have my hoodie on anymore.
"You should have that hoodie on, you must be freezing" I said.
"I have a blanket" she nodded towards her window seat.
"So you weren't going to bed?" I smirked. She groaned and closed the door.
"Well that was a nice talk" I muttered. I decided to go to bed myself.Alice
Me and my big mouth. I went to the window seat and wrapped the blanket around me tight. I sat and looked at the stars until I fell asleep.I woke up at the window seat.
I looked at the clock. Seven in the morning. I groaned and threw the blanket off. I was immediately cold.
One question...why?
I shuddered. I looked at the hoodie on the floor.
I am NOT putting on that hoodie. Body you will just have to deal with it.
I grabbed a pair of skinny jeans, a pair of converse, and tank top with the British flag on it. I brushed my hair and put in a ponytail. I brushed my teeth and went downstairs. Breakfast was already on the table.
Are those....pancakes? Are those...blue pancakes? What in the world?
I stood in bewilderment as to why there were blue pancakes on the table....blue pancakes. Aiden walked into the kitchen.
"Good morning" he said.
"Morning" I said.
"Are those....blue pancakes?" I pointed at the table.
"Yes, yes they are" he sounded so casual.
"Why are they blue?" I asked.
"You have something against blue?" He asked.
"Um, no, it's actually my favorite color" I said.
"Oh, well they're blue because I like blue. Look we found something in common!" He said.
"Uh huh" I walked up to the table and sat down.
This guy must really love blue.
I sat and ate one pancake. Only one, not because it was disgusting but because I wasn't really hungary. And the last time I had pancakes was the morning of the day. The fire day. I ate pancakes, but I just wasn't into them now.
"Thank you" I said.
"You didn't eat all of your pancakes" he said.
"No I'm not that hungary" I said. I went upstairs and climbed on the roof. I needed to go somewhere, but I wonder where. I sat and thought about it as I looked at the the city below me.
Aiden came and climbed up on the roof with me.
"I knew you'd be up here" he sat by me.
"Why do like this place?" He asked.
"I like heights because I see the world from a different perspective" I said.
"Okay" he said.
"I know it's kind of weird."
"Are you going to tell me about that nightmare?" He asked.
"What do you think?" I asked.
"No."
"Then no."
"If I said yes would you tell me?"
"No."
We sat in silence.______________________________________________________________________________
