"Aiden we need to-" he tackled me down and we both rolled under the couch. It was a good thing he had his shirt back on.
In a few seconds, I felt heat and fire and heard a huge BOOM! My ears were ringing louder than ever; louder than whenever I got shot.
How did she know where we were?
I realized thinking was a bad idea whenever my head started pounding like a drum. My hands went to my head. My vision became so blurry I felt legally blind.
YOU'LL NEVER MAKE IT! Brianna yelled in my head.
"Screw you" I said out loud.
"What?!" Aiden yelled.
"Nothing! We need to get out of here!" I said.
"Well nah, dip Sherlock!" He said.
"Shut up and grab your gun!" I yelled.
"I don't have it on me!"
"What?! You walk around naked?!"
"It's a safe house!"
My head was pounding even more, I groaned.
"What?!"
"Nothing idiot!" I grabbed my gun from thigh holster.
"What the heck, Alice?!"
"Shut up you're giving me a bigger headache!"
I let out a breath and rolled out from under the couch. Men were dropping from roped and spotlights went everywhere. I heard a really high whistle sound and ran for the what was left of the fireplace.
"ALICE!" Aiden yelled.
Look, numbnut, I'm not hiding under a sofa for comfort. Especially one that's on fire. Wait a second...crap.
"GET OUT FROM UNDER THERE IT'S ON FIRE!" I yelled. Aiden's eyes widened, but before he could move another bomb went off and I went deeper into the fireplace. My head was getting worse, so was my vision.
"AIDEN!" I yelled, "AIDEN!"
God don't die on me.
"AIDENNN!!!" I dragged his name out.
I looked around frantically and my breathing quickened.
Then a flashback from the night of the fire came into my mind.
"MOMMY!! DADDY!!!!" I knocked on doors and looked at the fire everywhere as it spread throughout my home.
Snap out of it! Snap out of it!
I shook my head, the men in black suits came toward our direction.
Aiden where are you, I need you right now.
Men were getting closer.
Dammit Aiden!
I looked around, where's an exit? I need an exit.
My eyes locked on the back door that was basically gone.
Perfect.
Extremely loud whistling came in and another explosion was beginning to happen. I ducked in. The explosion was so close I slammed in the back of what was left of the fireplace. Which didn't help my head any.
I fell to the ground.
Get up, Alice, get your arse up now.
I forced my eyes open, and used the wall for a little support. I struggled but I got to my feet.
I looked at my chosen exit. Still clear. I looked at where Brianna's men were.
3...2...RUN.
I ran towards the opening. If Aiden figured out who I was then he'll figure it out.
He's left you...like everyone else.
"Shut up Miss Psychopath" I breathed out as I ran out the opening. I coughed, the smoke made it harder to breathe. I entered what was left of the outside and leaned up against the garage door; which burned my hand. But I didn't care about that.
No, no stopping. Think about what she did to you and your family. Think about all the crap that happened in you lifetime, think about why your in this position.
Suddenly, I felt the biggest adrenaline rush. I pushed off the wall and headed to the purple waterfall.
I had no idea why that was my choice. A car would've been good...no never mind that would be flashy and I can't go for flashy.
I starting sprinting and pushing leaves out of the way with my arms.
It felt like I was running forever and I started thinking it was useless until I finally made it. Everything was in fire and it was all smoke and ash and dust.
How did she know? How did she know about his place it doesn't make any sense?
The smoke and ash were burning my eyes. Everything was basically destroyed. I stood there. Hearing the chop, chop, chop, of the helicopters nearby and I didn't do anything. My ears rung, ash and soot covered my clothes and my face.
Alice! Alice what are you doing?! Take cover! I told myself.
I snapped out of it and ran into the trees. Could anything get worse than an explosion? Yes, yes it could.
When I jumped into the tree line, the worst and most surprising thing happened -- I tumbled down a hill. The most heroic thing ever, right?
I tumbled on and on and on. I tri4d to grab onto some trees or something, but all I ended up with was -- what do you call it when you get burned by a tree? A tree burn or something? I'm just going to guess that -- a tree burn and a BUNCH of scratches. Yippee.
I finally stopped tumbling, and got up.
"I TOLD YOU TO FIND HER AND KILL THE BOY!" I heard a familiar voice yelling. It was a bit muffled but it was loud enough for me to hear. I crouched down and moved closer.
"Now, GO FIND HER. AND BRING HER TO ME OR I WILL PERSONALLY RIP YOUR INSIDES OUT!" It was Brianna. Her hair seemed to be a little purple, and she had an eyepatch over her eye. She was going insane looking for me...not that she wasn't already insane, but she was getting desperate.
"AND BRING HER TO ME ALIVE!" She pushed one of her men.
"Yes, Madam" he said and ran off. She was breathing heavily and looked frustrated.
"I will find you. I will find you Alice Silvertounge" she kept saying to herself, "you can't keep running from me!" She tapped her head, "You'll always be with me" she smiled manically. I shivered.
Her smile got bigger "And you're here, aren't you?"
My eyes widened, how did she know?
"DOBBS! GET YOU'RE ASS BACK HERE!" She yelled angrily.
"Madam, I thought you said to go and-"
"DID YOU HEAR ME?! I SAID! GET! YOUR ASS! OVER HERE!" She yelled pointing at the ground in front of her.
"SHE'S NEAR HERE. Get your men to search this area! EVERY LAST BIT OF IT! NOW! SNAP TO IT!" She threw her hands around while talking.
"Yes Madam. GRANT! JAROME! HARMON! GET EVERYONE TO SEARCH THIS AREA! NOW! BOSS'S ORDERS!" He yelled.
I knew I had to move quickly and quietly. I ran down the little slope and into the open woods.
"SEARCH ALL OVER!!!" I heard Brianna yell. Men were shouting, I kept sprinting. Until I trip over a tree root. Yeah, not fun.
Stupid tree root, I thought. I know it's not the tree roots fault but I was in hurry.
I got to my feet, although it hurt like a crap, I got up and started sprinting again. The smoke in the air was getting thicker and I was coughing more. Another whistling sound went off like a school bell for class, and another BOOM! sounded nearby. The ground shook like an earthquake and helicopters chopped above with their spotlights on. They were coming closer and I sprinted faster. I had to stay away from the light. The smoke in the air started to get even more thick, and I coughed every five seconds. Soon, coughing turned into wheezing and my throat felt like the Sahara; dry, rough, and sandy. I started leaning against an oak tree.
Keep running, don't stop, keep running, run, run, run, don't give up. That's pathetic, that's what quitters do. You can't do that, Alice. Don't give up now. Never. Give. Up.
I looked forward and started walking.
RUN ALICE! CMON! I told myself.
I started at a slow jog, which eventually turned into a fast jog.
SPRINT! CMON!
I started sprinting again.
It's so useless, Alice why do you do it?
I mean, I'll find you.
"STOP MESSING WITH MY HEAD." I wheezed. Brianna laughed at me, stop running.
"Never" I wheezed out.
Oh c'mon, now, you know it's useless. He left you, Alice. Everyone does.
I gritted my teeth and kept going. I used a tree for support again.
I. Got. To. Keep. Moving.
"AH!" I groaned as I pushed off the tree.
"I'm not losing this battle" I said to myself. I wheezed again. My vision got worse.
"Don't. Give. Up. Don't. Give. In." I wheezed and walked forward.
"I'M GOING TO FIND YOU!!!!" Brianna said melodicly. I turned a little to see flashlight beams and people in the woods. I had to run, so I forced myself to push off and sprint. Which I could only manage that for about thirty seconds before something grabbed my ankle and pulled me into some kind of basement.
I grunted and fell on top of someone.
Obviously male...body composition muscular but not bodybuilder like...bloody...why is it--? I looked at who fell on top of, it was hard to see but I could tell, it was Aiden. He had a two gunshot wounds in his torso and shoulder.
"Jesus Christ!" I whisper yelled. We were in some kind of bomb shelter-- which means bandages -- and bandages were a really good idea. I looked around frantically for a first aid kit.
"I was looking for you! Where in God's green earth were you? Oh my God, Aiden! You had me worried sick! If something worse than this would've happened to you I wouldn't know what to do with myself! Oh my God you're such a little mph--" he covered my mouth and now I know why. I looked up and heard footsteps over the lid of the bomb shelter. I looked at Aiden he had his index finger over his mouth and he was breathing heavily. I grabbed the bandages and silently went to work.
"WHAT?! WHERE IS SHE?! WHERE DID SHE GO?! TELL ME, MR. DOBBS, WHERE! OH WHERE DID SHE GO?!"
"We tried, Madam, we did but--"
"SHUT UP! I'M GOING TO GET A NEW LUTIENANT! SOMEONE WHO CAN ACTUALLY FIND A WEAK, INJURED, GIRL!"
Aiden's face looked like he was saying, "seriously?" Although it was kind of hard to tell because he also and the expression that looked like "I'm freaking dying help me."
I went back to work bandaging his wounds. When I was finally finished he was passed out. Above, they hadn't moved any farther away, and I decided that I'd just lay down and sleep. Since there wasn't much room I had to sleep squished up next to Aiden. The noises kept me up and it was hard to sleep. Despite the noise, Aiden slept soundly like a baby. The air down here wasn't that great, either, but it was better than up there. I laid my head on my arms, closed my eyes, and tried to relax. It didn't work. So I just stared at the wall all night. When it was finally quiet I climbed up and peeked through the lid of of the underground shelter. It was light outside but not too light. I guessed it was about five or six in the morning. I climbed back down to wake Aiden up.
"Aiden...Aiden...wake up" I said. He opened his eyes.
"We've got to go. Do you know anymore safe houses?" I asked.
"No. But I do a place we can go to. It's not exactly a safe house but it's something. Ah, wait...my car! Ah man, I bet it's destroyed" he rubbed his face in frustration. He worked so hard on that car I wouldn't blame him, but we have much more serious matters than a Shelby.
"We have much more pressing matters at hand, Aiden. Where can we find this place?"
"Let me get out of here first, then we'll begin driving. And, um...we might need to steal a car."
"That's never been a problem for me."
"Great, well, let's get out of here and go."______________________________________________________________________________
