All three of us quickly reached the restaurant and pushed through the glass doors. It was a small little food place but they had the most amazing summertime salads and juices. There were tables at the back and also against the left side, which overlooked the street outside. On the right side they had the counter where they served juices and other beverages. They had an anthropologie store kinda feel because of the wood and the plants that were decorated around the place. It was lovely.
We sat down on one of the tables at the back, Kathy and Stephen next to each other while I sat opposite Stephen. Soon a waitress came around to hand us the menus and take the order of our drinks.
"I'll have the Green with turmeric," Kathy said while looking at the waitress.
I tried to make up my mind. "I'll take Fennel," I finally said.
The waitress looked at Stephen and waited patiently. I could tell he was struggling because he hadn't been here before and he had no idea what to get.
"Need help?" I raised an eyebrow at him.
He moved his eyes away from the menu in his hands and looked at me. He nodded his head and smiled sheepishly. I shook my head.
"Ginger Beet for him," I smirked and immediately a terrified look covered his face. He was about to protest but I cut him off while laughing, "I'm just kidding, he'll take Tropical Green," I moved my gaze to the waitress.
"I'll have your drinks ready for you," she informed us before going behind the counter.
"You should have seen your face," I said while laughing.
"You're so mean," he shook his head.
"Do you guys know what you want?" Kathy interrupted our playful banter.
"You don't have to ask me but Stephen here might need some help with that again," I looked from Kathy to Stephen.
"You could get Black Bean and Garnet Yam," she suggested while looking at him.
I made a disgusted face, "That is terrible, please don't get that," I told Stephen. "You have a really weird taste," I looked at Kathy while she just stuck her tongue out at me and smiled. Weirdo.
"Why don't you help him then?" She raised a perfectly shaped eyebrow at me.
"Alright," I skimmed through the menu and tried to pick something decent for him. "Get the Crunch salad, it's really good. I think you'll like it," I offered him.
He read the description of the salad and looked pleased, "Crunch salad it is. Sorry Kathy," he looked sideways at her.
She laughed and shook her head, "I don't really mind, it's alright."
We waited while the waitress came back with our drinks. Meanwhile we talked about how Stephen was handling the business and how he liked it here. Well I was just listening in while Kathy asked him a million things.
"Do you miss London?" she asked him.
He seemed to be thinking about something and then slowly he nodded his head, "I miss my Mum the most, I'm close with her."
I don't know why but I felt a tinge of jealousy when he said that. He was really lucky.
The waitress came around with our drinks and took our orders. She left again while Stephen and Kathy continued talking. I was lost in my own world, thinking about plenty of things but nothing in particular at the same time.
I was brought back to reality when the waitress came back with our food and placed it in front of us on the table. She mumbled a small 'enjoy' before disappearing again.
