Chapter 22

"Hi pappy Joe, we got some groceries" Riley said walking in and placing the bags in the kitchen table. "You guys went to the mall?" He asked putting his mail down. "Yep, I bought Riley a beautiful dress" Lucas said standing behind her rubbing Riley's shoulders. "Which he shouldn't have, I keep wanting to pay you back" Riley crunched her nose. "If you secretly shove the money in my wallet I'll give the double amount back" Lucas threatened playful. "Then I'll feel worse!" Lucas chuckled and kissed her cheek. "I'm gonna go take a shower and then I'll help you prepare diner" Lucas kissed Riley's cheek and headed to their room. "Actually wait a minute Lucas" pappy Joe stopped him. Lucas turned on his heels and faced his grandfather. "Your parents called again" Lucas looked down. "They sounded very worried" Lucas glanced at Riley who kept her head down. "You didn't tell them anything right?" Lucas asked. Pappy Joe shook his head. "I'm just saying, they're all very worried back in New York. Maybe you should think of going back" Lucas looked down at the hard wooded floor. Without saying a word he turned around again and walked towards their room. Riley putted the groceries down and followed Lucas.

She quietly shut the door behind her and saw Lucas sitting on the bed. Without saying anything she sat down next to him. "We need to go back" she blurted out. Lucas looked at her like she was crazy. "And what if they break us up? What if they tear us apart the moment we step into the house?" Lucas asked worried. "I don't want to lose you" he caresses her cheek and she cupped his hand. "Me neither, but school is starting again in a couple of days, our parents are worried sick and your grandfather has to keep lying" she looked their hands and putted them in her lap. "It's not their choice what we do. We're almost adults." Lucas nodded. "Let's leave first thing tomorrow morning" Riley suggested. Lucas sighed and nodded agreeing. "Ok. Il start packing after I took a shower" he said. "And I'll make diner" Riley stood up before pecking his lips. "I'll call you when it's ready."

"Thank you for the delicious diner Riley. I suppose you two will be gone early in the morning?" Pappy Joe asked while putting his plate in the dishwasher. "That's what we're planning on" Lucas muttered sounding sad. "We wanted to thank you for letting us stay in secrecy. We needed our space" Riley thanked pappy Joe. "You two can come to me anytime." Pappy joe took his coat and hat. "Now, I have to go meet up with some old friends at Ron's bar. Don't stay up" Pappy Joe tipped his hat and left the house. There was an awkward silence at the table. Riley was looking down at the wood while Lucas couldn't stop staring at her. "Want to go watch a movie?" He asked trying to break the silence. Riley shook her head. "Can't we go cuddle or something?" She asked soft. Lucas smiled and nodded. He stood up and reached for her hand. She gladly accepted it and they walked to their room where they laid down on the bed. Lucas wrapped his arms around her and kissed her head. "I wish we could stay here forever" Riley muttered. "Yeah, maybe once we finished our life in New York" Lucas dreamed. Riley nodded. "Maybe" she snuggled closer and started playing with the buttons of Lucas his shirt. "What are you doing?" He asked with a smirk. Riley looked up. "How long does pappy Joe usually stay away from the bar?" Riley asked. "Oh that takes hours" Lucas said. He rolled her over and hovered over her. "Let me show you how we roll in Texas" Riley giggled before he pressed his lips against hers.

The next morning Riley was once again up early. She gently pushed Lucas to wake him up. He groaned a little and turned his back at her. "Lucas wake up" she whispered. He shook his head and pulled the covers over himself. Riley sighed and took the covers tight in her grasp. She waited a few seconds before pulling away the covers exposing Lucas in only his boxers. "No!" He whined. "Come on Lucas, we need to go. Get dressed" Riley jumped off the bed and turned on her robe. "I'm gonna take a quick shower" she said while trying to make him get up. Lucas burried his face in his pillow and wanted to fall asleep again. But Riley soon started to pull his arm and he eventually landed on the cold floor. "Oh good, you're out of bed" Riley said sarcastic. Lucas pushed himself up. "What time is it?" He asked with a raspy voice. "Six in the morning. I want to leave in thirty minutes" Riley threw some clothes at him and took some of her own.
