Riley woke up and the sound of a rooster waking the entire property. She felt two arms around her and looked up at Lucas. How could he possible sleep through that alarm outside? Riley pecked his nose and he pulled her closer. Riley lightly pushed his arm aside and slipped from under his grasp. She quickly replaced herself by a pillow and tip toed out of the room. Trying not to wake him, she silently shut the door and walked to the kitchen. she saw that pappy Joe was still asleep in his chair. The newspaper was draped accross his stomach showing he fell asleep while reading it. Riley passed him and closed the kitchen door. The kitchen was cleaned nicely for a man that lives here on his own. She opened the fridge to find enough supplies to make breakfast. She noticed a small sticky note on the fridge and read it.Lucas,
Incase you're up early could you get the eggs from the chicken barn?
Pappy JoeRiley tossed the paper away and turned on Lucas his jacket that was laying on a chair. She took a basket and walked outside. She knew it said Lucas but he was still asleep and she didn't want to wake him up. She walked towards the chicken barn and quickly closed the door again so no chicken could escape. She bit her lip looking for the eggs. "If I were a chicken, where would I put my eggs?" She muttered to herself. She realized that sounded really weird but kept looking. Until she found the spot and took the eggs. "Great, I'm sure pappy Joe loves eggs. I know Lucas does" she said to herself. Proud she walked out of the barn again, locking it and walking back to the house. She peeked through the door seeing that pappy Joe was still asleep. She closed the door again and stared making breakfast.
Lucas woke up by the sound of someone cooking in the kitchen. He wanted to give Riley a kiss on her head but he kissed a pillow instead. He frowned and threw it away. He stretched and stepped out of bed. He fell asleep after Riley fell asleep which he did not plan. His dad would kill him if he knew. Pappy Joe had a room for both but he couldn't bare to slip away the night before. He walked into the other room seeing pappy Joe still asleep. That man sleeps through everything. Lucas walked into the kitchen to find his girlfriend making a delicious breakfast. She noticed him and smiled. "Good morning. Did you sleep well?" She asked. Lucas nodded while looking around. "Amazing, you didn't have to do all this" he said. Riley shook her shoulders. "It's the least I could do" she putted an egg on a plate and shoved it towards Lucas. "Right on time" Lucas smiled and sat down. "This looks delicious" Riley smiled proud and the door opened again and pappy Joe walked in. "I though I smelled eggs. Good morning you two" he greeted them. "Goodmorning pappy Joe. You know there's something called a bed. The doctor recommends using it with your back and all" Lucas said. Pappy joe chuckled while taking the cup of coffee from Riley who was handing it to him. "Why would I if I have such a comfortable seat in the living room" Lucas rolled his eyes and Riley giggled. "Now, I'm gonna go feed the horses" pappy Joe said taking his hat. "Aren't you joining us?" Riley asked shoving an egg in Lucas his plate. "I'll have some after I fed the horses" he tipped his hat before leaving the kitchen. "Don't mind him, his horses are always his first priority" Lucas explained. Riley sat down next to him and poured herself some orange juice. "Thanks for making breakfast. I was planning on doing it but you beat me to it" Lucas joked before kissing Riley's temple. "I'm an early bird. You're gonna have to beat me for a lot of things cowboy" Lucas chuckled. "Wanna go into town today?" Lucas asked. Riley nodded. "Sounds fun."
"Come on Riles! Let's go!" Lucas yelled while turning on his coat. Riley was still in the bathroom getting her make up done. "You know you don't need any of that" he yelled. Pappy Joe chuckled while eating his breakfast. "The girl just wants to look pretty boy" he said. "You doesn't need all that to look pretty. I've told her that a million times" Lucas said sitting down. "Just let it go." Pappy Joe shook his head and e door opened and Riley walked in. "I'm ready" she said taking her coat from the hook. "Great. Pappy ,we'll be back before diner" pappy Joe nodded and took the newspaper. Riley and Lucas walked outside to Lucas his car. "So tell me, what is going on in Texas right now that we can go do?" Riley asked. "Well, I can say that there are some fun shops in our mall" Lucas said while they got into the car. "You got a mall?" Riley asked. "Oh ok, you probably thought Texas was one of those old small towns like the movies" Riley slowly slid back in her seat pretending she was hiding from her blush. Lucas chuckled. "Let's go to the mall" he started his car and they drove off the drive way.
"Well there's one thing for sure, they're no longer in New York" Emily putted her phone down and joined her parents at the table. "I'm gonna cancel some more meetings. I'm not going back to work before Lucas is back" he said taking his tablet. "Maybe we should give them some space" Victoria blurted out after she was silent for a long time. Harold looked up shocked. "Are you saying we should let them be?" He asked offended. "Harry, they need the space ok? Why else would they have run away?" Victoria asked. "Because they're stupid kids who don't know what they're doing" Harold snapped at his wife. Emily looked down at her phone trying to ignore the fighting that has bin going on for days. "We shouldn't be the one deciding over Lucas his love life, he's eighteen!" Victoria defended her son. "There are seven billion people in the world. I always said that he could fall in love with whoever he wants, wether if it's a boy or a girl I would always be fine with it. But I'm not fine with our rival! I've always made that clear" Harold snapped at his wife. "This should not affect their relationship." Victoria crossed her arms. "And what are they gonna do once they both own the family company?" Harold asked. Victoria had no answer. Her husband was right. Matthews and Friar were still enemy companies. "That's what I thought" he took his iPad again while Victoria sat down next to her daughter, defeated.
"What do you think?" Riley twirled in front of the mirror with a dress she found. "Cute, pretty, oh you're talking about the dress" Riley rolled his eyes at Lucas his cliché talk. "Yes the dress" she said. "It's looks very nice on you" Riley smiled. "Great, it's on sale too" Riley said looking one more time. "Ok, I'll take it. Can you get my purse?" She asked pointing to the black shoulder bag next to Lucas his seat. She went back into the stall and after she turned off her dress she hung it on top of the stall. Lucas took it off and walked to the register. After a few minutes and many attempts to close her zipper behind her backRiley finally got out the stall. She noticed that both Lucas ans the dress were gone. She took her bag and walked around the store. Then she saw Lucas standing at the exit with a bag of the store in his hand and texting. "Where's the dress?" Riley asked. Lucas lifted the bag. "Paid and ready to wear on our next date" he said. "How did you know my code?" Riley asked curious. "I didn't, but I did know mine" Lucas grasped Riley's hand when she widened her eyes. "Lucas! You didn't have to do that" Riley said. "Nonsense. Why can't I spoil my girlfriend?" He asked. Riley playfully glared at him while they walked out of the store. "I'm hungry wanna go get lunch?" Riley asked to a small restaurant on the other side of the hallway. Lucas nodded and they sat down in two seats up front. The waitress walked up to the couple. "Hi, welcome to Peter's Pizza what can I- Lucas?" Lucas widened his eyes. "Kate" he jumped up and took a step back. "Hi um...what um... What are you doing here?" He asked. "I should ask you, you're the one moved away" Kate said. "Um...I'm uh....visiting" Lucas lied glancing to Riley. "Oh, well maybe we can do something sometime" she suggested. "Like we used too, so what can I get ya?" She asked. Lucas looked over to Riley who was confused. "I'll have some water" she ordered. "And a lemonade for you?" Kate asked Lucas. He shook his head. "No, I'll have a coke" he said. Kate nodded and left to the bar. "Do you know her well?" Riley asked. "Yeah we um...dated very briefly a few years ago" Lucas admitted. Riley nodded understanding and sat back. "Noting to worry about. I didn't even know she worked here" Lucas said trying not to worry Riley. "No it's ok, as long as you remember you're with me now" Lucas leaned in and pressed his lips against Riley's. She was caught off guard at first but then kissed back smiling. They were I terupted by Kare clearing her throat with the drinks in her hand. "Shall I take your order for pizza's?" She asked placing the glasses down. Riley and Lucas glanced at each other. Riley nodded. "Yes, I'll have a pepperoni" she asked. "And the same for me please" Lucas asked. The girl , who was still feeling awkward, nodded and wrote it down. "Ok..." She turned around and Riley shoved back in her seat. "Oh my god, that was so embarrassing I feel so bad!" Lucas chuckled. "Don't be" after they had their pizza they hung around the mall for a little longer and then they went back to pappy Joe's ranch.
