*Jack's POV*

"You invited dad?" My words were too heavy for my tongue.

"He wanted to see you." She looked innocent. She's not innocent.

I thought she changed. I thought she was a different person now.

I was incredibly wrong.

"No he didn't. Don't lie to me, mom." I felt nothing but anger inside me, but I didn't let it show. If I get angry, I will most likely freak Danielle out. And by the look on her face, she's already a little freaked out already.

"Well, hello." He spoke with a devilish smirk on his face.

I looked away from my mom and over to my dad. He didn't look a bit different. Actually, he did look different. He looked worse than he did when I saw him 2 years ago.

Looking at my father, brought back memories. Terrible memories, to be exact. They all flooded back in. The look on his face when he was having sex with people that weren't my mom. The evil grin he had when he was hitting me or my mom or sisters. The way he looked at a bottle of Tequila.

I ran away from my home and left my old world behind. Little did I know that I couldn't escape the memories.

"Well, you're not going to say anything to me?" He walked closer to us, smirking.

Under the table, I reached over and grabbed Dani's hand. She doesn't know what he's capable of. I want to protect her.

He once had sex with a 16-year-old girl, what would make me think he won't do it again?

I looked at Dani, who just looked down.

He sat down in the seat next to my mom. He leaned on his elbows on the table and examined me closely.

"What a man." He laughed. "You're finally a man."

I still stayed silent.

He turned his gaze to Dani.

"Hello, who might you be?" His right cheek pulled into a grin.

"I'm Danielle. Jack's friend." She sounded restricted, but still trying to be nice.

"Hello, Danielle. You're very pretty."

"Thank you." She smiled but it wasn't a real smile.

"So, what's for dessert?" He leaned back and put his knee on the table. My mom just stayed silent.

"I mean we all know what Jack's getting for dessert, am I right?" My dad looked over at Dani and laughed like he just told the funniest joke in the world. But no one else laughed. Not even my mom.

"Why is it so goddamn quiet in here!" He slammed his fists against the table. We all flinched.

"Ken, I think you should-" My mom started.

"Go? You want me to go?" He laughed at her and then was silent.

"Wow, you do want me to." His face downed. "What about you, Jack? You want me to stay?"

I said nothing.

"Hmf. Glad to know I have a family that respects me." He spat on the table and then got up. He went over to the cabinet where my mom kept wine and grabbed a bottle. He cracked the top off, with his hands. He had a lot of practice.

Then, he walked out, with a slam.

All three of us were silent for a minute. I knew my mom wasn't going to say anything, she never does.
