Chapter Twelve

While Jensen and Liam went off to get me some silver and make sure the Shifter hadn't Shifted through too many people (there were cops here, and this situation was getting worse by the minute without having an investigation team finding a stream of dead bodies) I unlocked the vault and studied all the faces of the people stuck inside as they looked up at me expectantly.

'I thought you were on our side!' Some lady cried.

'I am.' I snapped. 'But it can't seem that way, can it?'

She shut up.

'Grace.'

She looked up and bolted for the door and out behind me, breathing hard.

'Alright, we'll be right back.' I put on my best smile and slammed the vault door shut on them again. The smile slipped off as soon as I turned.

'Where're the bois?' She gasped, almost completely doubled over.

'Gettin me some silver.' I said. 'Do you reckon the bank manager's our guy?'

'I dunno, maybe. The cameras aren't wrong.' Grace stood straight.

'Let's hope.' I said, heading off down the hall.

Liam walked behind me, still brandishing the gun around.

'Can you give it a rest?' I snapped, trying to stop my fangs from showing. It wasn't easy, but I didn't want him to have a another panic attack and shoot me again.

I was still pulling metal fillings and gun powder out of my arm.

I crouched behind a desk, my sight strengthening and zooming in like on a microscope or something, picking up all the tiniest bits of dust and other miscellanious things.

'I just need it to make-Aah!' He yelled, there was an almighty crash and as I jumped up Liam was lying in a puddle of blood, gore and skin.

How had I missed that?

'Ow, I...Ohmigod, what is this?' He cried, thrashing around in the gunk.

'The ShapeShifter's Shifted again.' I said in annoyance, crouching beside the mess.

'Ew!' Liam cried, and I rolled my eyes.

'Get up.' I stood and left the little office room, pulling out my mobile.

'How did you get this number?' I snapped.

'Alex, is this really the time or place?' Jensen sighed over the phone, creating a wall of static. Once it cleared, I said, 'OK, guess not. Are you sure it Shifted from the manager though?'

'Uh...' I heard Liam wretching in the background. 'Yeah, I'm pretty sure.' He said.

I sighed in annoyance. 'Gawd I hate these bastards.'

'Don't we all.' Jensen said.

Thinking hard, I looked back at Grace who was watching the cops arrive outside.

'We're not completely screwed, not yet.' I said, turning back and leaning on the marble banister that looked down on the first floor where Liam had busted in. 'We'll just check out the security cameras-'

As I said it there was the sound of protesting metal, and all the lights went down.

'Shit.' I muttered.

'Yeah, I think we're screwed. Be back in five.' Jensen said and hung out.

'I think we may be officially screwed.' Grace said as massive lights shone through the closed blinds and windows. 'There's more cop cars that you can throw a shoe at, and a couple news vans.'

I sighed and hung my head. Why was nothing ever easy?

***

I looked over what Jensen had given me.

Paperweight, a couple pens, and a envelope opener.

'Well this would be good, and would probably be an alright weapon, if we melted it all down!' I yelled angrily.

'Don't get hissy with me!' Jensen growled. 'I did what I could with what I was given. It's not my fault we're up the creek without a paddle. I doubt we even have a boat anymore!'

'Wow, there's police, like, everywhere!' Liam cried.

We turned as one to face him, and I sighed as Jensen rolled his eyes.

'Liam, get out of the light!' I hissed.

He did as he was told, and went off to find Grace near the vault.

'We know it's not the manager, but we have no way of finding out who it is now the power's down.' I groaned.

'Maybe we do.' Jensen said, heading over to the vault.

'What're you talking about?' I asked, following.

'I have an idea.' He smiled wickedly, looking back over his shoulder.

'Oh Lord save us now.' I muttered, knowing he could hear me.

This would not end well.
