Chapter Twenty-Two
I woke to the sound of Grace and Jensen fighting loudly- again, no surprise- and I sat up slowly, rubbing my eyes.
I yawned, stretching my jaw out, then listened to what they were fighting over.
'It was MINE- you had no right to take it!' Grace roared, and it was lucky there was another bed between them or I think they would've torn each other to shreds by now.
'You weren't going to use it anyway!' Jensen yelled back, fangs out and eyes crimson.
'It doesn't matter!' Grace screamed, shaking with rage and obviously trying not to Phase. 'It was mine!'
'What're you fighting over?' I called loud enough for them to hear me, and breathing hard, they turned to face me.
'What?' Jensen gasped.
'What are you fighting over?' I repeated, quieter this time.
'Uh...' Grace and Jensen looked at each other questioningly, then back to me.
'We, uh, we don't remember.' Jensen muttered.
'Was...was it about pie?' Grace asked him.
'No,' He scoffed. 'Why would it be about pie?'
'Because pie is awesome!' Grace snapped. 'Why WOULDN'T it be about pie?'
''Coz it's not!'
'It might've been!'
'Oh lord.' I pinched the bridge of my nose. 'Not again.'

We sat at a booth at the restaurant out the front of the motel, and I rubbed my temples as Grace and Jensen picked over the menus.
They didn't sit beside each other, of course- Grace sat beside me and Jensen opposed us.
'Are you OK?' Grace asked as Jensen asked, 'Do you reckon they'll serve up the dinner special still kicking?'
I looked up at her. 'Yeah, my head just hurts a little. I'll be fine.'
I watched as they ordered and fell on their food, feeling something unsettling fall on my shoulders.
Today would not turn out well.
As we left the restaurant I heard someone say, 'Dammit, I've lost my card.'
Walking down the street in the light sun, Grace said, 'Do you reckon we could visit, you know, a touristy spot?'
'Are you sure that rope's secure?'
I looked up to see an actual piano hanging above our heads.
'It'll be fine, just keep lowering it down!'
'What if it breaks?'
I quickly made us move faster.
'There's a cat.' Jensen pointed, and Grace growled.
'I don't like cats.' She said.
'Wonder why.' Jensen muttered.
They kept walking, but I stopped at a mini crossing. 'You know, maybe we should just go back today. Stay in the motel for awhile?'
Grace stopped in the middle of the road. 'Why?'
'We're going to the Bermuda Triangle, aren't we? It's the most touristy thing in this place.' Jensen called on the other side.
'Yeah, so come on Alex!'
I heard the horn of the car seconds away, and screamed out to Grace just as it turned a corner.
'Look out!' I screamed.
'What?' She turned just as it ran into her.
'Grace!' I screamed, running forward. The old guy leaned out the window of his car, yelled some swears and teared off again.
I lifted her head onto my lap, tears streaming down my face, but she was already gone.
