Chapter 9:

I opened my eyes and stared at the ceiling. The planks were dark brown with a bit of a red hint to it. You could see dust and spiderwebs here and there.

I sat up to see everyone else was still asleep, well I wasn't going back to sleep now. I wrote a note for them and placed it on the bedside table and got dressed. I walked out to the stables and into Silver's stable. I saddled her and mounted her, I rode out of the town and into the fields.

I just wanted to do something, I just felt like I wanted to fly, I felt like I could fly. I tapped Silver's flank with my feet and she ran faster. We ran through the fields and I kept encouraging Silver to keep going faster until I just stood up in the irons and yelled as loud as I could. We were going so fast. It felt like I was flying, I looked down at her hooves.

I saw the grass fly past me and looked behind me and saw clouds of dust and dirt flying up behind us. I laughed out of excitement and threw my head back and enjoyed the wind flying past my head and sweeping up my hair.I felt so alive! I felt like I was flying.

I slowed Silver down by pulling the reins just a little, until she was walking again. I bowed down forward and hugged Silver's neck. That was amazing, if flying feel like this, I won't ever stop.

I saw a forest en rode to the edge of it. I stopped Silver and listened. It was so quiet except for... what was that sound?

It almost sounded like a dog's whimpering.

A dog's whimper?

Suddenly an animal flew out of the bushes nearby and ran at me, but it stopped right before Silver and me. It was a puppy.

Wait, a puppy? What's a puppy doing out here?

It was a puppy with a furry coat, white fur with brown spots. It looked like a border collie pup. It was so small and cute, I quickly got off Silver's back and kneeled down next to it.

"Hey buddy, are you lost?" I caressed its head and it pushed its head against my hand. The pup laid down on its back and now I saw it was female. She was so cute! I lifted her up and held her against my chest and she licked my cheek as I laughed, it tickled!

I put her back down on the ground after a couple of minutes of cuddling and she immediatly barked and ran to the edge of the forest. She stopped there and looked back at me. I took Silver's reins and followed the pup.

She walked forward and into some bushes, I pushed them aside and followed her further into the woods. After a while of walking, she runs ahead and softly whimpers again. I go after her and see her lying next to a dead dog. It had cuts and bites all over it, poor thing.

Her mom or dad maybe?

I kneeled down beside the dead dog and the puppy. "So that's why you're out here all alone... you poor thing.." I pick her up again and hug her. I look up at Silver with questioning eyes, "What do you think Silver, wanna add someone new to the group?" Silver whinnied and threw her head up and down. I placed one hand on her nose, "Stop that, otherwise I'll start to think you understand me and then I'll start talking to you and go mad. I don't wanna go mad, yet." I laugh at myself and mount Silver with the puppy still in my arms.

We walked back to the village through the fields and meadows. "If I'm gonna keep you... what do I call you?" I look up at the sky, thinking. "How about Roxy?" The pup whined softly and I laughed, "Okay not Roxy, maybe... Samantha? No let's shorten that name, Sam. Do you like the name Sam?" I looked down at the pup and saw her ears go up as she started wagging her tail. "Oh my lord you're so cute. Sam it is then!" Sam barked happily and licked my cheek.
