Chapter 11:
I went to bed but I wasn't able to sleep. At all. And everyone knows what happens when you can't sleep at night and you're sad. You start thinking, doubting.
What would've happened if I hadn't gone to the beach with the rest? Do my parents miss me? I miss them. I miss them a lot.
A tear trickled down my face and I quickly wiped it away.
What if I fail? What if I fail everyone in this kingdom? Will they hate me? I wonder... And what does the prophecy mean when it says that I'll get my wings? Spiritually or physically?
Could I've saved Celine if I had found her earlier? She talked about a couple of men who were angry with her, who were they? Were they the men who asked me the way? She's in a better place now, I hope.
My thoughts were all over the place and I couldn't stand it. I turned in my bed and hit my pillow once out of frustration. I heard some shuffling in the dark and sat up to see what it was. Sam came to me and laid down next to me on my bed. I let out a sigh of relief to find out it was just Sam and not one of the guys and laid back down.
But suddenly the bed sunk down next to me and I nearly jumped out of bed. "Hey, can't sleep?" I heard Luke's voice ask. "Geez Luke, you scared me. And no, I can't sleep." I replied, "Thoughts are taking my sleep away. It feels like I'm too tired to sleep if that makes any sense."
He nods, "Yeah I get what you mean." He laid down next to me and turned my face away from him. "I'm scared Luke..." I felt him shift beside me, "Scared of what?" He asked me as he shifted again to find a comfortable position. "Of failing. Failing this world and this weird quest thing we're on." I turned around to face him as a couple of tears trickled down my face. I rested my head on my pillow which had my arm beneath it.
"You shouldn't, I'm sure it'll all be okay. You're a strong person." He put his hand on my cheek and wiped the tears away with his thumb. "Are you feeling a little better now?" He asked as he sat up. I nodded and he ruffled my hair with his hand as he stood up.
Sam took crawled over me and took his place next to me as he walked back to his bed. I heard some quiet sounds for a couple of second but that stopped soon enough. I drove off to a dreamless sleep with Sam in my arms.
                              ----
We were walking around town to find a tavern or an inn to buy some food and water for the road, our inn didn't sell that so we decided to walk around. Sam was walking close to me when we turned a corner into an alley and a knife was thrown at me. I heard a woosh and saw a knife sticking out of the wood just mere centimeters away from my face. It was still vibrating with force and I quickly wrapped my hand around the grip and pulled it out of the wood.
A woman with dark blond, long, wavey hair jumped down from a rooftop. She was wearing black tight clothing along with a cloak. She rolled over the ground to soften the blow and stood back up to follow it up by glaring at me and taking her huge sword out of its sheath and walking threateningly towards me.
I stayed where I was and didn't move an inch. "What do you want from me?" I asked her but she didn't answer and came running at me with her sword ready. I took my swords out of their sheathes and fended off her first attack by just redirecting her sword. Sam quickly jumped forward and bit her ankle. She tripped and fell, groaning when hitting the ground. She quietly cursed as I placed my foot on her shoulder to prevent her from getting up and placing one sword at her throat. "Ryan, get her sword away from her, would you?"
She glared at me again as Gure walked over to me and looked at her. "An assassin, the countess's assassin to be precise. The countess hires her when she needs someone killed, but beside that, she's just like any other assassin. A beautiful one though." He spoke and I gave him a dry look after he spoke his last sentence.
