Andrew's pov

When I get home my own parents freak because I got home so late (they don't know magic is real) then my mom sees the scratches and bruises on my skin and flips out "oh my god, what happened to you." "I tripped into a thorn bush." I lie to get her to calm down. " well why were you so late?" She asks in a suspicious tone. "I helped a friend back home." "Okay, but warn us next time." My dad is in his chair and is just watching my mom and says "I told you he is fine, he knows how to handle himself." My little sister,lily, runs down the stairs to greet me "late as always" , she was super smart for her age, she was at a fifth grade level at five so she goes to school online (no magic online). Her ninth birthday was in a few months and she wanted me be there. I went to the basement where my room was and decided to read through the book a bit and found a neat spell. I set a can on the end of my dresser and whisper "fire grapple" a cooler fire shoots from my fingertips and grabs the can "that could come in handy." I say aloud "What could come in han..." I turn to see my sister standing there staring at my hand, then runs up the stairs yelling "MOOOOOOMMMMMM, FIRE" I put out my fire and jump on my bed and act like I was reading the whole time, my mom runs in with the fire extinguisher looks around and yells "where?" I look at her with a look like what are you doing. My sister looks at me and points at my hand "it was on his hand and on that can over there" I look at them like what the hell are you talking about. My mom sees my hoodie and noticed it looks like fire "sweetie did you see Drew's coat?" "NO, I SAW REAL FIRE IN HIS HAND AND IT WAS ALSO TOUCHING THAT CAN!" My mom is looking at her like you crazy woman. "Sorry drew she's still young." My mom leaves and my sister just stands there staring at my hand and I whisper so only I can hear "flaming light" and my hand burst into flames. Her logical mind can't comprehend how my hand doesn't burn in the heat of the flames "I must be seeing things." And she walked slowly up to her room.

The next day was slow not a lot of creatures in the labyrinth so I went to the front office of Lavastone to check the champion's schedule and noticed I have to challenge the Rocky Cliff high school, earth mages, crap in the history of Lavastone no fire Mage has beaten an earth Mage. Earth specializes in defense and strength so there is no getting close to them, one good punch and you're out, they were made to take out fire. So I hop on the bus to take me there then I notice I'm alone, all the other champions had friends to pick them up if they fell, except me. I get there, thank the driver and head in the office to let them know I'm here. Minutes later I find myself outside to challenge Tim, one of theRocky Cliffs champions, he's twice my size I have no idea how I'm going to take him down. The teacher starts the match and he yells while touching the ground "rocky maze" walls sprout out of the ground, luckily I know what to do. I close my eyes and focus my magic into a single point then release it I open my eyes and the walls are gone and the only things left are rocks and rubble. I look at Tim and he still was touching the ground, "sandstorm" and as soon as he said that dust clouds my vision and and I'm left vulnerable "crimson flames" my body erupts with the hellfire I'm all too familiar with and the dust around me burns and turns to ash then I rush at him and he starts to panic "rock wall" I crash though it still rushing at him "earthen armor" and rocks fly in from everywhere peacing together armor coating every part of his body and then he rushes at me, I quicken my my speed and we grapple each other and despite his size I lift him and throw him in the air and yell "piercing flame" the swirl of the pointed fire flies toward him and breaks his armor "fire boost" as I fly up and punch him in the gut then slam him back to the ground leaving him in a crater. I land at the edge and peer down at him, he is out cold in a heap. Everyone is shocked, a fire mage beat an earth mage it is just unheard of. His friends rush over half a afraid to get close to me, he groans when they pick him up and he is rushed inside "wow, you must be pretty durable to be able to take down a earth mage" I hear a girl giggle "uh, thanks" I turn around to see a girl a little smaller than me "I'm Tim's younger sister Amy" "Andrew, aren't you a little small to be an earth mage" I tease. "Hey, I can be small and still kick your ass!" She says as she punches my arm. "Alright, alright I believe you" "well I better go tend to my dumb brother, I'll see you later hot head." She runs inside and I head to the bus.

Days later I get mail from Lavastone saying that I need to meet the other schools champions down in the labyrinth and that we will be doing a monster raid in two days, with the mail comes a box. I open it to find a new book, secrets of the fire.
