Jess's POV
As we walked down the steps of our apartment building, a wave of crisp, cool air swept over us. It was a sunny morning on 48th Street, and the hum and beeping of traffic was music to my New Yorker ears. We went into the alley between our apartment and the dry cleaners and unchained our bikes from the makeshift bike rack and rode down the sidewalk. I was pedaling at slow motion pace so Sarah could keep up with me. Halfway to school, Sarah of course, forgot her binder, so I had to ride all the way back home with her to get it. When we returned our apartment, we noticed that there was a white van parked outside.
"Was that there before we left?" asked Sarah as she hopped off of her bike.
"I don't think so." I said, "Now hurry up and get your binder we're gonna be late."
"Alright mom." she mocked

Meanwhile in the white van...
"Sir, Targets A and B have been spotted."
"Perfect. Have they noticed you?" asked the man.
"No sir. We are sending Pete in now." Seth replied, "Wait, they are leaving now. Phase 1 will have to wait till they return."
"Shit." said the man.
"Sir, we are detecting some movement in the apartment. I think it's one of their parents. What should we do? Do we take them as well?"
"No. We have no use for them. Their brains are already fully developed and are now immune to the swaying process."
"Then what should we do with them?"
"End them. The last thing we need is their two enhanced and skilled individuals getting involved."
"Yes sir. Over and out."

Finally, we made it to school with all of Sarah's equipment. I walked into my first period class and just remembered that I forgot my math folder.
Dammit!
After an awful first period, I had an even worse second period as I was placed at the table with the most bitchiest girls possible. Then I had health class where we talked about sex. To top it off, after a nauseating health class, I had lunch. I forgot my lunch money so I just sat down at an empty table without any food. A girl with a long hazel fishtail braid and piercing green eyes sat down across from me.
"New here?" she asked.
I nodded.
"Here. You can have my apple and jello."
"Thanks." I said as I wolfed them down.
"I'm Angie. So where are you from?"
"Queens and I'm Jess."
"Oh, so why did you switch schools?"
"Our old school got too crowded so we got transferred here." I lied.
"Huh. I moved here from Tampa like four years ago. The first week is the hardest, but don't worry, Manhattan gets better."
"Thanks...again." I said.
We continued this conversation throughout the lunch period and said our goodbyes at the end of it. Finally, after SEVERAL periods of boring classes the final bell rang and school was over. Sarah and I rushed home on our bikes once again.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HEY! Sorry this chapter was kind of boring.
Why do you think Jess lied about why she and Sarah transferred schools? What is she hiding? Will this be answered in the next chapter? No, no it will not, but stay tuned.
