POV: Aqua
I was just laying on my bed when, I got Margot's signal. Then, I was given my glass of water. Following the plan, Margot then took the glass back.
"Guess she didn't want any." she said to the guard as she placed me on the lower shelf of her cart.
It was the most uncomfortable thing ever. Imagine you're on a bumpy road in a bubble and everything around you including yourself is shaking violently every single Goddamn minute. Then to make things worse you're in constant fear that at any moment you could fall and have your entire body be scattered around the room. I was freakin' scared as shit.
Tryng to avoid having a major break down, I attempted to focus my attention on Margot and the handso...wait no he's pretty fugly actually guard. They were having a conversation about stuff I couldn't care less about. Their voices sounded warbly as if they were talking with their mouths full because my ears were underneath my ass, which was also on top of my eyes, so everything outside of the exquisite, dirt chalice was distorted. It looked and felt as if I was high.
Finally, after what felt like a millennia the rest of the waters had been handed out and we were rolling into what looked like a school cafeteria's kitchen, which had machines that looked like they should be holding dead bodies in a morgue rather than holding food. I could make out a sink, a counter and a buffet table but that was it. Suddenly, Margot's hands wrapped around me and lifted me up slowly so I wouldn't spill out.
"So uhhhh. What are you doing Wednesday night?" asked the fugly guard, scratching his head and talking to Margot's butt as she bent over to pick up another cup.
"Giving lousy kids water, I guess. Same as always" she responded tiredly.
"Ha. you're so funny." he said laughing nervously, "When do you get off?"
"Eight."
"That's cool." he said smoothly.
She then abruptly, turned around to face him and in the process spilled me all over his black uniform.
Shit! Oh shit! Why does he smell so bad. Oh god why!? Why does this have to be part of the plan?
"Ohhh. I'm so sorry. I'm such a clutz." she sighed shaking her head and dabbing his shirt with a paper napkin.
Ow. Ow. Stop yourself. Why are you rubbing me so hard. Oh god why did I say that? That just made everything even worse.
"That's okay. It's only water. I can just dry this off in the bathroom. Be back in a sec." he grinned stupidly. (The only thing I could see clearly was his stupid face.)
He walked over towards the bathroom and went inside.
I am not doing this anymore! As soon as the door was shut, I transformed back to my normal self.
"What the hell?" he cried.
"Take this." I said as I butted my head into his forehead, "Oh balls! That hurt so much! What is your head made of iron?" I screamed as I stumbled backwards and leaned against the cool, tiled wall.
"It's going to take a lot more than...that...to to take me down." the creep said as he stumbled a bit and then fell to the ground.
"Yeah that's right bitch. You stay...you stay down." I said sitting down, "Shit that hurt!" I cried cradling my face in my hands.
"Let's go. We only have twenty minutes and forty nine seconds left before the plane arrives." Margot said urgently from outside the bathroom.
I hurriedly copied and stole the guard's appearance, handcuffed him to the toilet and took his weapons and radio.
Margot and I then walked back to the prison cells wing where she unlocked Jess's door.
"Where are we going now?" she moaned while her whole body twitched, as if an electric current was flowing through it every second, which probably was the case because of her collar.
"Stop talking and get up." I said gruffly.
"Fine. I'm up. I'm up." she said as she shakily stood up, "Ehhh! Don't I know you. You were that douchebag's assistant and then you phissed him off and now look at you. Just a prison guard. What a shame. You had such a great talent of being able to write with a pencil."
Margot rolled her eyes, "Ouch a twelve year old just hurt my feelings. Oh please. Come back to me in five years when you've gone through puberty and actually know how to give a good burn." Margot said shuffling Jess out of the cell.
"I'm fourteen." Jess mumbled.
After rounding a couple of hallways we strolled into a laboratory that was vacant and had no windows to view the tortures that would take place inside it. I locked the door and sat Jess down on a plastic chair, while Margot stood on the counter and pushed the air vent cover it of the way. Jess looked at us now confused. I grinned at her and changed back to my regular form.
She jumped back looking a bit frazzled, "Aqua?"
"Yeah it's me."
She slowly rose from her chair and gave me a hug, which just turned into her using me to support her entire body; therefore, causing us both to fall to the ground.
"Ohh it's so great to see you." she said into my hair, which she had face planted into.
"You too." I groaned, "Now please get off me."
She slowly rolled off of me, her elbow poking me hard in the side in the process. As she sat up, she then remembered Margot was still there.
"Wait. Why are you with that freakin bitch and disguised as a guard?" she asked narrowing her eyes at Margot.
"The bitch's name is Margot." Margot mumbled.
"She is going to help us escape." I said.
"Why should I believe that?" Jess asked skeptically.
"Because I'm a double agent. I work for the secret government agency called F.R.E.E. They sent me here nine months ago to infiltrate C.O.B.R.A, and figure out what science research they were conducting with their millions of dollars."
"Did you get suspicious of them because their name was C.O.B.R.A?" asked Jess.
"My God! Let me finish and no it wasn't...just that. There was other stuff too. But I'm not going to get into that."
Jess raised an eyebrow.
"So continuing with what Aqua was saying before, if you would like to escape then you're going to have to trust me.
"Fine." she sighed.
"The plan is that Aqua and I will walk each of you into the lab where you sneak up into that air vent," she said pointing at the vent above us, "It will lead to another hallway which is right next to the air strip. The last gifted prisoner will be on a plane that will be arriving there in precisely seventeen minutes. Now, what you have to do is go up into that air vent and once you reach the end of it, just sit there and don't make any sounds and wait for the rest of us to get there. I will set up my link so you can still communicate with me."
"Link?" Jess asked now even more confused.
"No. I have gifts like you. I'm a telepath. Do you know what telepathy is?" she asked condescendingly.
"Yes. I watch TV." Jess answered now more annoyed
than confused.
"Well, using my telepathy, I can communicate with several people at the same time through my mind."
"Does Sharm know about this?" I asked.
"No. Now can I please continue?"
We we were silent.
"Thank you. Now, after everyone is at the end of the air vent, we will quickly and quietly run through the hallway, sneak onto the plane take the kid who's on there and fly the plane to safety." she finally finished.
"Wait do you know how to fly a plane." I asked.
"Of course." Margot responded in a tone that made her seem like she didn't fully agree with her answer.
"Won't they notice us on the cameras?" Jess questioned.
"I have taped over feeds on the cameras in here, Aqua's cell and the hallway next to the air strip." Margot explained.
"What about the collars?" I asked.
"I was only able to turn the power inhibitors off, so I suggest you take them off as soon as possible."
Immidetly, Jess placed her hand against her collar and squeezed her eyes shut in concentration. After a few seconds, Jess opened her eyes and caught her breath as her hands shook from fatigue.
"Do you need some help?" Margot asked in a baby tone in an attempt to mock Jess.
"I don't need your help!" she said now getting angry and frustrated.
She once again placed her hand on the collar and continued her attempt. Her body jolted a bit, I assumed from the electric shock she like me received from her collar. This only made her even more angry, but she continued on channeling her anger as fuel for her ability. Suddenly, her hand started flickering. At first I though it was because she was tired, but then I realized what she was doing. For a second her hand vanished and then the collar clattered to the floor. Jess simultaneously fell to the floor and breathed heavily and her neck was bleeding and covered in marks from the collar, but she was smiling as she realized she was free. Margot then took a small key out of her pocket and strolled behind me. My collar soon clattered to the floor as well.
"Are you kidding me?" Jess cried.
"You said you didn't want my help." Margot shrugged.
Jess looked as if she was on the verge of slapping Margot but she contained herself.
"Oh, two more things. Most of Sharm's security will be on that air strip awaiting the plane's arrival and he will order them to kill you if he sees you trying to escape. So try to be discrete about it." Margot said.
"Good to know." Jess said, "Guess I should go know."
We gave her a boost.
"Be careful out there." Jess said.
"You too." I told her and she was gone.
Soon followed her a half asleep Ruby and Crystal, a ticked off Sarah, who still after we explained everything to her wanted to kick me in the groin, a confused Billy and Jack and the rest of the prisoners (the author ran out of the ideas). Finally, Margot and I joined them at the entrance from the vent to the air strip hallway. Everyone was now telepathically linked and together and without a collar.
Jess is the coast clear?
Almost. There's just one guy strolling through. Wait. Now he's moving again. Hold on. He stopped again. He's checking his pockets. Wait what's this! Another person walking the hallway! Who will leave first. Will it be the guy with a saggy nose a giant glasses or shifty eyed, short lady that looks like she would punch Buddy the Elf if he called her an elf?
"For the love of God. Just tell us when they both leave." Margot whispered clearly annoyed from the other end of our group.
"My money's on Nose Guy. He's got longer legs." Billy bet.
"Twenty bucks says Elf Lady wins." Sarah challenged.
"You're on." said Billy.
"I'm going with Elf Lady and I love how you guys are paying attention to my descriptions." said Jess gleefully.
After everybody else had placed their bets, the constant chatter became a nervous murmur that grew softer and softer with every waking minute of anxiety. I guess everyone let the fact that this might be the last time that we were together sink in. None of us knew each other very long or very well, but we had worked together and gone through some horrifyingly bad stuff together. We had looked out for each other and comforted each other as well. And in this moment, I realized that these crazy and annoying people made me feel like I belonged to something and that I wasn't alone in this world.
"Pretty deep stuff there Aqua." whispered Jack.
Apparently, everyone had heard my entire line of deep thoughts. My cheeks flushed a hot red and I buried my face into my hands as I hugged my knees. A soft hand fell onto my shoulder. It was Jade's. She smiled back at me.
"Everything is going to be fine."
"Actually, that's not entirely true. We have to face most of the security in this building in a few minutes." said Emma.
"Jesus, Emma. Shut up. We're gonna be fine." Jade responded.
After another thirty seconds of waiting for the hallway to clear Jess finally ended the silence
"Alright guys." she paused. "It's time."
