His sweet scented, olive colored hand gently caresses my face.
"You know daddy loves you... right Rae bear?" His eyes revealed trouble and worry. My little 4 year old fingers grab onto his thumb. I look up smiling.
" Of course, Daddy. I love you too. Now can you tell me what the surprise is? I promise I'll clean my room for 200 years!" I pout my lips.
His laugh is a deep one, one that makes his chest rise up and down in a hefty way. His amused face then becomes serious once again.
"I love you so much Rae..." I then feel myself being enveloped in his strong arms, him placing an extremely long kiss on my head.
"I love you too daddy."
"Ok, you see your bedroom closet? I want you to run as fast as you can in there. Count to 100, and your present will be right in front of you. No peeking either! I'll be watching. On your mark. Get set. Go!"
I scurry off in the direction of my bedroom, tripping over a few times. I finally rip open the closet door and dig myself in between Mr. Kringle and my toy choo-choo train. I breathe deeply and start counting.
1...2...3...
It seems like a century had passed before I had finally gotten to 100 and my present had not yet appeared before me. Frustrated, I get up and slightly open the closet door.
"Daddy?" My head pokes out, scanning my surroundings.
"Daddy!" No answer. Where is he?
I retreat fully from the closet and make my way downstairs.
"Daddy!?"
Living room...empty. Kitchen...empty. I stop in my tracks. The front door is flung wide open with the snow outside showing big footprints leading to the driveway. The car is no where to be seen.
"Daddy!!" I scream out to the doorway.
I shiver and wait for the longest, but my daddy never returns. I stay in a house by myself for 3 days before hell arrives. I look up from my sleeping spot on the floor to see a pale skin, green eyed beauty standing before me.
"Hi Rae. I'm your mommy, Linda."
