They let me off the chains now. I don't know If it's permanently or not, but It feels really good to know I have a little bit of freedom to roam around the little damp basement as much as I desire.
It seems kind of too good to be true though. I could easily escape... so why set me free like this? My thoughts are crushed when Bailey dashes down the stairs in a cute red dress, white leggings and black slip-on shoes. She giggles and rushes over to give me a hug.
I stumble a little but regain my balance and offer the same gesture back.
"Hey Bailey Bug, why are you so dressed up?"
"Well today is my birthday, and I turned seven. My daddy bought me a cake for the first time and he said I can go to school online. Isn't that great?"
I smile at the little girl that has grown to have a special place in my broken heart. I love her like the little sister I never had.
"Bailey! Come blow out the candles!"
The little girls head flings in the direction of the voice and she faces me again with a sorry look.
"I've got to go Rae, But I'll bring you back a slice of cake later. Love you..."
Love. I don't know how long it's been since I've heard someone say that to me and mean it.
She waves, then runs up the stairs, her little dress flowing behind her.
"Love you too Bailey Bug." My silent whisper echo's, but only enough for me to hear.
A couple hours later, Jason makes his way down the stairs with a tray supplying a slice of cake, a bottle of water and a turkey sandwich. He gently places the tray on the wooden table and nervously rubs his hands across his pants.
"Um, I made you that. I hope you enjoy it." He takes one step forward and I take one step back.
" I don't wanna hurt you, Rae."
"You already hurt me when you fucking raped me all those damn times." I spit. How could this fool say he's not trying to hurt me? My damn purity is gone.
A look of hurt spreads across his face and he looks down.
"I know. Just trust me when I say I don't have a choice."
"You don't have a choice? You always have a choice!"
He walks over to the table and sits down while I stay a great distance away with my arms across my chest, protecting everything that feels revealed.
"Raven, I'm tired of raping and killing girls. I've followed you for most of my youngest daughters childhood! I'm just now realizing that I'm fed up with this shit. I can't do it anymore."
I hear his voice crack at the end of his sentence, and no sympathy comes out from me. I don't really give two shits if this guy feels guilty, tired, bored whatever. What's done is done and he needs to be punished for it.
He wipes away all the grime from his face and motions to the food.
"Eat. If you want. No pressure."
I give him no response and he looks and tightly nods.
"Daddy! Someone's on the phone!" Both of our heads turn to the staircase.
He sighs and goes back up the stairs, my eyes following him the whole way.
As I furiously pace the room, I notice a black object near the bottom of the staircase. At first I think it's a gun, then I could shoot all these damn psycho's, take Bailey and run to the police. But it's something much, much better....
