Leaving Aiden back there was possibly the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life, but I knew he would be okay. I thought he would be okay.

"You alright, baby girl?"

I look up at Officer Johnson and snuggle deeper into the blanket he had given me earlier.

"Yeah."

Lies.

"No."

Truth.

I hear him give out a heavy sigh and sit his heavy self-down alongside me on the ambulance truck. All his words start to die down when I start thinking about where they could have all disappeared to. The police had informed me that Ariel had vanished into thin air, and that they couldn't find a trace to her whereabouts. She had left not one piece of evidence behind.

I'm happy that they caught Aiden's dad, but the big problem is Leo. They couldn't find him anywhere, yet they said he couldn't have gone far. But that's not what's bothering me. What's bothering me is that they couldn't find Aiden either. They detected some struggle, which is understandable, but no trace of him.

     "Raven Lelee McKinley?"

I look up to an officer with a frown on his face, sweat building on his forehead and his fingers shaking with a pen and notepad placed in his hands. Rookie.

"Yes?"

"I need you to answer some questions..."

"I've already answered questions from three other officers. I'm only talking to Officer Johnson now."

"Ma'am, I-" He motions forward.

"Look, if you don't leave me the fuck alone this damn minute, I'll kick you so hard in your balls you'll be screaming your fucking great grandmother's name. Understand? Leave. Me. Alone." I spit out.

The look in the officer's eyes and the way his hand was trembling even worse made me realize how cruel and bitter I had just sounded. He was just doing what he was told.

"Hey, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-"

He holds his hand up to stop me. "It's fine. I completely understand."

Then he walks away.

I bite my bottom lip. How can my life be this fucked up so fast? I get up and walk towards the opposite direction of the sirens and flashing blue and red lights, away from the whispers of the people nearby and from the beeps of walky-talkies. This shit will end, even If I die trying. Suddenly I hear my name being called. I turn around, my hair blowing in my face, to see Officer Johnson running towards me. Or at least trying to run.

"Don't try to stop me, sir."

"Who said I was going to? Just came to give you this."

I take the card Labeled "Reggie Johnson" from his plump fingers.

"Call me anytime you need help, Raven. I'll be there in five."

He gives me a wink. I smile up at him and can't help but give him a huge hug. I squeeze my eyes shut as the tears fall and silently say thank you into his ear then back up and give him a final wave.

+++++

I walk into the busy police station, arms wrapped around my body, as officers walk back and forth between desks. Phones are off the hook as I walk up towards the main desk and try to get the man on the computer to notice me.

"Um, hi. I'm here to see Mauricio Mathews."

The man's fingers stop touching the keyboard and he looks up at me, first with a bored face then with a shocked one.

"Raven McKinley?" He gasps.

"Yeah."

"Of course you may see him. Right this way please." He motions for me to follow him.

I follow the man all the way to the back of the building, towards a door that reads "Officers only" and down some stairs until we enter a dark tunnel. He walks forward and motions his hands for me to go down another hallway.

"His cell is over there. I'm going to inform the other officers you're down here. If any emergency occurs, press the red button on the wall."

I give him a tight smile and nod, waiting for him to fully leave before I have to face the music. I take a deep breath and slowly walk around the corner. I see a body in the corner of the cell. The water in the faucet making little drip sounds, the walls crumbling away and a little mattress laying in the opposite corner of the body.

"Mr. Mathews?"

He stirs before lifting himself up still unturned.

"What do you want Raven? You shouldn't be here." He warns.

"Please, Mr. Mathews. I think my dad took Aiden. He could be in some serious trouble. I need to find him."

"You can't find him, Rae. Leonardo wouldn't have taken Aiden by force. He would have killed him then and there.  Aiden would have had to go willingly."

My brows crush together and my cheeks grow warm. Mauricio turns around, revealing marks on his face from the struggle with the police.

"It's over, Rae. Go Home."

"No. Why would Aiden go willingly?" I deepen my voice, not knowing if I did it to show him I was tough or to show myself.

"You'll know one day, Rae."

I knew he wouldn't answer my question but I had to ask one more.

"Why did Leo have to kidnap me? Why did he wait all these years? Why does he care at all If i'm dead?" I couldn't stop the questions that were pouring out of my mouth.

Mauricio looks at me with a poker face, as If he knew I would ask these questions.

"Because, Raven. You're special. You're father and mother raised you to be a special kid but also a threat to Leo. He's kidnapped and killed many other girls. But you're different."

"Why?"

"Like I said, you'll know one day Rae."

I wanted to ask him more, so much more crap that had to be answered. I just sigh and nod my head.

"Well, I guess you won't live to see me experience that day."

Mauricio starts to say something, but before he does I take out the pocket knife hiding in my boots and bring it near my wrist.

"Have a fun time in hell, Mauricio. Don't worry. My uncle will be joining you shortly."

I dig the knife deeper into my arm, letting the blood ooze out but wincing at the stinging pain. I see that Mauricio's hands are wrapped around the bars of the cell with him still in shock over what I had done. I quickly grab one of them and shove the knife in his hand. He quickly drops it, but that should be enough for his prints to be on them. I run to the red button on the wall, just like the officer said, and slam my palm on it. Alarms start ringing, and I immediately hear heavy footsteps barging down the door.

I run around the corner of the hallway and see the first officer coming towards me with a gun in hand.

"You alright miss?"

"No! The bastard cut me with a knife! He must've had it hidden on him somewhere."

His eyes wander to the bloody arm I was holding and he looks behind his shoulder and signals the rest of the officers coming to follow behind him. I just stand against the wall until all of them pass and make my way back up the stairs, taking off the transparent gloves I was wearing along the way. No one was in their little cubicles and desks when I got back upstairs. I look in every direction before walking towards the exit.

I walk out into the chill, crisp night and feel the adrenaline running through my veins. Like I said my life is already fucked up so why not fuck it up some more?
