"Rae, come on. You've got to eat."
All week Ariel's been abusing me while saying she doesn't have a choice. She'd come home from school and tell me stories about Aiden, I don't know whether she talks about him to help me pass the time or to brag about him to my face. After that, Jason would sometimes come down and rape me but sometimes he wouldn't, he would just talk about his day. I haven't eaten all week either, and I don't think I want to or care to, I'm going to die here anyways. But a little girl named Bailey has been sneaking down here to feed me some treats when she can, mostly bacon pieces, candies, leftover OJ, and sometimes even a sandwich.
"I know. I just don't have the energy to."
I sigh and rub at my thigh which is now healing slowly thanks to Bailey's first-aid kit.
"Rae? Can I ask you a question?
"You already did but go ahead."
"Well...What happened to your eye? I noticed it looks kind of different from the other one..."
"Its a long story, Bailey. A story I just don't feel like telling right now if that's okay with you."
She nods her head and places one of her small hands on my thigh.
"Bails..."
"Yeah, Rae?" She asks innocently.
I smile slightly." Let me ask you a question now.Tell me, why are you here? Why aren't you in school?"
Bailey's once bright face quickly dims and a frown takes over. She sets the tray she was carrying down on the table and starts twirling her hair nervously.
"I live here."
"Well, I figured that sweetie. But Why are you here... with Jason and Ariel. Who are they to you?"
"My sister and Daddy."
My tongue swells and my throat suddenly dries up.
"Sister and dad?"
"Yeah. They said I couldn't go to school 'cause It was too dangerous."
"Dangerous? Okay, well am I the first person in this place?"
"In this place? Yeah, daddy said that you're special and he kept this place just for you. Ariel stays here while me and daddy travel places and he does the same thing. He says it's a project."
I slowly nod my head in understanding. This is fucked up. Bailey and I both face the door as we hear a slam.
"I've got to go now, but just remember do as they say." Bailey rushes to grab the tray and run upstairs but I grab the edge of her sleeve before she disappears.
"Bailey, help me. Call the police. Unlock my chains."
She sadly shakes her head.
"They never escape, Rae. Be good. There's rewards for good behavior."
She shakes off my handle on her and continues for the staircase.
Be good? Rewards? I don't care about those things! I just want to get out of here...
"Raven."
I look up to see Ariel hovering over me. Twirling a lock of keys with her fingers. She prances her way down to my legs to unlock the chains and grabs my arms.
"Lets go. We're going to play a game."
"What game?"
"You'll see." She says with no emotion.
We end up in the living room of the apartment. I eye the modern setting. There's a white sofa with a glass table in the center of the room. A flat screen television with Judge Judy showing, a huge carpet and many different paintings around the room.
"Like it? I painted them all myself. Didn't know I love art did ya?"
She lets go of my arm to gently touch the painting. She admires it almost normally.
"My mom taught me... anyway this is the game. Bailey!"
A few seconds later, I see Bailey run into the room with a bucket of water in her hands, steam making its way out. She eyes both me and Ariel questionably.
"Now, this is how its going to go. Right there is extremely hot water. You have to withstand me pouring that water on your wound for about ten seconds, or you yourself can pour it on Bailey's face. What'll it be?"
Once again, she says this with no emotion at all. At school she's usually mean and bitchy but here shes like a robot.
"Ariel! You can't do that! That's your own fucking sister!"
"I don't... Who told you she's my sister?"
Fuck.
" I just assumed."
Next thing I know Bailey's screaming is piercing as Ariel pulls on her hair and slaps her to the ground.
"You've been sneaking down there?"
"No! Only once Ariel I swear!"
"Are you trying to get us in trouble?!"
"No! No I'm not!" Bailey's eyes grow big and worry some. There were tears pouring down her pale cheeks, her little hands clasped together, begging.
"Ariel! About that game. Pour it on my injury for as long as you want just let Bailey go."
I eye Ariel as she slowly stands up from her position and turns around towards me.
"Ok, Bailey. Give me the water."
I can't explain to you the pain that came next, because If I did you also would be feeling the pain that I had to withstand. When It was over, I didn't even have tears come out. I just looked at nothing. And waited near the couch like Ariel said for Jason to come and serve dinner.
-------------------------------------------------------
"No sir, she's not my girlfriend. But what does that have to do with anything?! The girl's been missing for maybe a month or more, and instead of you going to look for her you're asking personal shit like if she's my girlfriend?"
"Look son, I have my best men on the case. But It's protocol for me to ask you questions. Now, where's the last place you saw her?"
I stare at Officer Dave and his bushy mustache before blowing out a heavy sigh and rubbing my hands over my un-shaven face.
"I don't know. Her mom did say that when she got home she saw her cell phone on the porch I think. I don't know."
"Alright, we'll go talk to her mom. Try to get some rest okay, son?"
I rise out of my swirling chair as Officer Dave does and grab my coat.
"Yes, sir."
I feel a pair of gloved hands on my shoulder then.
"Don't worry son... we'll find her."
I nod and walk out of the police station feeling a pair of eyes watching me. I shrug it off and walk to my car. When I open the door, a note falls out that reads,
NOT ALL IS AS IT SEEMS AIDEN. IF YOU WANT INFORMATION ON HOW TO GET HER BACK COME TO HOWIE'S COFFEE SHOP AT EXACTLY 12 P.M TOMORROW AFTERNOON. DONT BE LATE.
