I tried to sit as far away from my dad as possible while we were in the car. I kept asking myself: Am I stupid for trusting this man to drive me to an unknown destination? Can I trust him?
Of course I can't...
I keep glancing at him, then turn when he looks my way. He felt like a total stranger, some one that I've never met before.
"We're here."
He parks the car on a deserted land, nothing surrounding us. I turn around to look at him.
"Where are we?" I ask as a smirk forms on his old skin, his eyes turning a scary shade of black.
"We're at your burial site, Son."
"Wha-" I couldn't finish my sentence. Someone abruptly opens the car door and pulls me out, throwing me onto the ground. I start coughing as the dirt starts clouding my vision and finds its way into my mouth. A foot slams itself onto my chest, blowing every breath I had out of me.
"You couldn't mind your fucking business, could you Kid?"
My hands wrap around the boot of my assailant and I manage to open one eye.
"Dave."
"We're friends now. And since you're about to die or whatever you can call me Leonardo."
"Where the hell is Rae?" I manage to say before I choke again.
He throws his hands onto his hips and starts looking around.
"You know...that's a very good question. This place is so damn big that I forgot where I buried her. Shit. Oh well." He shrugs.
The anger in me rises, and I use all my strength to twist his ankle, making Dave fall hard to the ground. I quickly start running in no particular direction, I don't look back to find out if Dave or my dad are following me, I just keep running.
After running for more than an hour, I heave over and breathe hard. I look at my watch that says it's almost night fall. I figured out a long time ago we were in some sort of desert, and I've learned throughout my years in school that when nighttime comes in the desert the temperature drops drastically. All I had was a small Jacket. I sigh, get up and continue walking when I hear a faint noise. I stop, and block all other sounds out, waiting for that particular noise to come again.
"Hello?" I ask loudly. After a few seconds I hear the same words again, this time I run towards the sound.
"Hello!? Keep talking so I can find you!"
I keep running towards the faint noise until I trip over something In front of me. I turn around to see some sort of a pipe sticking out of the ground. I crawl over towards it, examining it for a brief second then place my mouth on it.
"Hello!"
I then bring my ear near it but hear nothing. But then as I try to pick myself up I hear someone.
"Aiden?"
"Raven? Rae!"
"Aiden! Please, help. I'm stuck down here in some sort of a coffin."
I nod my head as If she could see me.
"Don't worry, I'll get you out."
I look down at the sand covering a black object. This must be the coffin...I immediately start digging away at the sand ferociously until the coffin was fully revealed. I try to pry it open with my bare hands, but see that there is a lock on the opening.
"Fuck." I mumble under my breath.
"Aiden? What's wrong?" I place my hands on my knees, and stare at the pipe.
"T-There's a lock on the opening of the coffin. I don't know how to get it off."
We stay in silence, thinking about what I just discovered and what we can do about it. I lay myself down back on the sand and draw in it. How am I going to get her out? So close, yet so far.
"What did you just say?"
I place my ear near the pipe once again. "Was I speaking out loud?"
" Yeah. Mostly just loud though. But what did you just say?"
"So close, yet so far?"
"Yeah, that gives me an idea. The pipe is wide enough for our hands to be able to meet. Here grab this."
I squeeze my face in confusion but comply. I lift my sleeves up and place my arm inside of the pipe. I keep pushing down until I can't anymore, then I feel something.
"What is that?"
"It's a flashlight I found down here, use it to smash the lock."
I grasp the flashlight and start lifting my arm out of the pipe. "Tell me something. How did "So close, yet so far" remind you of a flashlight?"
"I don't know, but please just hurry and smash it."
I throw the flashlight back and forth between both of my hands, surprised at how heavy it was. I lift the flashlight above my head, close my eyes and belt out a corny scream as I collide it with the lock. Immediately the lock bursts into different pieces.
"Damn. That was cool as shit."
I snap out of my astonishment and lift up the coffin to see Rae half laying down, half up. Her face and body full of dust, her beautiful eyes lacking of excitement or happiness. She was like a hollow corpse.
"Hey, Tweety." I breathe. Finally after all this time I felt a huge amount of relief. I could finally breath. A small smile forms on her chapped lips and she waves.
"Hey."
We both chuckle and I offer her a hand. She quickly places her small hands in mine and I lift her out of the coffin. When she's fully out, I squeeze her body against mine and place kisses on her head, lift her chin and place a long kiss on her lips. At first she's taken aback, but she eventually relaxes and soothes into it. I let go of her after a couple seconds and intertwine our hands.
"We have to hurry the hell up and get the fuck out of here. Those weird asses are probably on their way over here."
"Who are you talking about?" She asks.
"Well, you know. Your dad or should I say your uncle, my dad, and Ariel."
"Well, I knew about my dad, he's the one who put me in that damned coffin. And I knew about Ariel, she's the one who gave me all of these," She shows me her arms full of lash marks and cuts. "But I didn't know about your dad."
Her face suddenly looks confused and she looks me in my eye.
"Did you say Uncle?"
I sigh. "Yeah. Dave was the man just pretending to be your dad. He's really your uncle. They were in some sort of business together, like a mob type thing. Your dad wanted out because of you and then Dave killed your mother. Your dad wanted a better life for you so he got Linda to watch over you and he went to confront Dave and the rest but got killed in the process. Dave killed your mom and dad, Raven. I'm so sorry..."
She just stares at me and nods her head slowly. Trying to process everything. She stands up and dusts off her clothes.
"We have to get out of here, quickly. Which direction did you come from?" She asks.
I nervously look around and tighten my hand in hers.
"I don't know."
