Ring! Ring!
The second bell rang and the students cleared out the hallway. It was the examination day and the Fourth Year Wellness was putting their heads on the battle.
Yanna arrived thirty minutes before the time as she usually does during the exam week. With her brown sling bag and her checkered skirt uniform, she scanned the room looking for the best seat she will be comfortable at.
When she found the perfect spot, she brought out her reviewer and reviewed their lessons unmindful of the noise around her. She has to ace this test.
Everything went great but little by little the memory of him walking away slowly replayed in her mind.
She closed her eyes and felt that cold, painful feeling. The noise disappeared and what's left is deafening silence.
"I am not that girl." She said as her heart was breaking apart.
Some of her classmates arrived and put down their bags. Nathan immediately sat at the chair beside Yanna. Acting like yesterday did not happen.
"What is our test today?" he asked.
Yanna tried to fake a smile and faced him.
"You didn't review our lessons, didn't you?" Yanna asked.
"Because I'm gonna pass anyway?" Nathan said with his arched eyebrows.
Yanna didn't reply instead she continued to read her notes. Then in a blink of an eye, Nathan snatched her notes and ran outside.
"Hey you frog! Give me back my notes!" Yanna shouted angrily. "When will you grow up?"
"Nope. Forever young my dear."
"Please I'm tired of your stupid games!"
"Catch me if you want it back."
"You're dead meat if I catch you."
Both of them ran outside their room as their other classmates mind their own businesses. Nathan enjoyed every time he made Yanna mad.
He lacked attention so this made him very special that he got hers.
Just as when Yanna is about to catch him with his polo, there is a loud "BANG!" that echoed to the whole school.
-----------------------------------------------
"Who did that? Who's accountable for that incident?" Sir Jo angrily walked around the room. "Do you think you're still in Kindergarten? You're in Highschool now. So immature!"
Silence. You can hear a pin drop.
The entire locker just fell down that caused the loud 'Bang!' that can be heard in the entire building.
"Who saw the incident and tell me what happened?" He said sternly.
Nobody wants to raise their hand to tell him exactly what happened.
Until one of their classmates gathered up the courage to speak up. It is Janice.
"Sir. It is Yanna and Nathan who are running around the room. But the one accountable for the incident is Nathan. He snatched Yanna's notes while she is reviewing. And Yanna is begging him to bring it back but he wouldn't listen."
Silence.
"Nathan. Why did you do that? You are aware that is disrespectful right?" Sir Jo asked Nathan.
"Nothing sir. Umm... I just feel like it." Nathan said honestly filled with guilt.
Then Sir Jo walked at the back of the room and said.
"That's where everything wrong starts. You just feel like it. Do you like her? Do you have feelings for Yanna?"
Yanna's eyes were as big as saucers. Nathan doesn't show any reaction. The class started whispering. For the two of them, that is the most ridiculous thing they have ever heard.
Then Sir Jo said something Yanna and the rest of the class will never forget.
"Kung nagmamadali kayo pwes...... Hindi kayo bagay."
"If you're in a hurry..... you're not meant for each other."
Silence.
Yanna looked at the ground. That little comment made her realize that she really is in love with him.
After three years they've known each other, it was only her who felt a spark whenever he's near or when she hears his name.
That feeling she can't breathe. And that he may never feel the same way.
"This is stupid. Who could I be so stupid?" Yanna said to herself. " I want this to end. It's freaking sickening."
Sir Jo give the class a lesson about love. "Do not rush anything especially when it comes to love. There is a right time for that."
It went on and on. The whole class listened.
And Nathan is silent.
And nobody knows what Chey thinks with her blank look.
