When you're all out of options, sometimes the best thing to do is just wait... Patiently.

Chapter 1

I tried my best to convince my best friends Jenny and Todd to just let me stay home and indulge in my sorrows for about the fifth night in a row, but they just weren't going for it.

It's not like my life was "falling apart" but sometimes one needs to sulk. Getting lost in my own thoughts of how I wished so bad that they would just leave me alone, I suddenly heard Jenny say, "Lauren, you've got to get out! You've got to learn to have fun! We are only this young once, you know."

Todd, being the traitor he is, quickly nodded in assurance. "Yeah, Lauren, we are your friends. It would be nice to actually go out and do something as friends. One night. One time of not sulking and having your "alone time" will not hurt you. This will be fun and good for you," he said.

"Guys, where are we even going anyway," I asked. They looked at each other for a brief moment and said I would find out when we get there.

All of a sudden, Jenny quickly spun me around and led me to the direction of my own bedroom. I knew what this meant. She was about to make me look sexy whether I wanted to or not.

I sat on my bed and waited, sort of irritated, while she rummaged through my closet to find something for me to wear. "Next week, we're going shopping so we won't have this dilemma again. Seriously, Lauren it doesn't hurt to have something to show off how gorgeous you are... Especially while you're young and SINGLE," she said while raising her brows at me. I quickly looked away, avoiding eye contact, and rolled my eyes.

What does she know? She's absolutely perfect in beauty, and I'm sure she has a waiting list of guys wanting to date her. Me? Well, I'm 25 years old and haven't gone on a date in two years. I'm too "lost in my work" or so I've heard.

I'm an entrepreneur. I live in Denver, CO, and I own a Cajun restaurant called LA Dining. It's a sort of simple restaurant. When you walk in, there's dim lighting with the best jazz music there is playing. The tables are covered in red and white table cloths with two candles sitting in the middle. My waiters wear black pants, a white shirt, and to top it off, a black bow tie. We serve the finest Cajun food there is. I know what you're thinking, who wants a Cajun restaurant in Colorado? I didn't know either, but I took a chance and business is doing very good.

I hope to own many of my own businesses, but I'm only 25. I've got time, right?

I was forced out of my daze when Jenny throws a simple black dress my way and hurries me to change so she can do my hair. I put on the dress and looked in the mirror. The dress didn't look that bad on me. It hugged my curves and went good with my summer tan. I forgot I even had this dress. I believe I got it from Jenny's mom, who I consider to be like my own mom.

Jenny curls my long brown hair into wavy locks and puts a light coat mascara on my eyelashes. "Walla! You're all finished, my darling," Jenny says as she smiles at me and ruffles my hair. I look in the mirror and decide I look like I'm ready. Like I'm confident, and I'm ready to have fun.

Who knows? Maybe this night will change my life. Yeah, right. That kind of good fate doesn't happen to me.
