THE DAY OF PROM
Anastasia's POV
Today is prom, and my dress arrived yesterday evening. Justin asked me to prom last night in a romantic way.
*flashback*
"Anne, there's someone outside to see you," Stacy says while I'm watching a movie.
I sigh and pause the film before heading to the door.
When I open it, I gasp—Justin is standing there with a big poster that reads, "Go to prom with me; I'm not taking no for an answer."
I laugh and nod, "Of course, I would love to go."
He smiles, hands me a bouquet of flowers, and kisses me on the cheek.
I close the door, and Stacy grins, "Finally, someone asked you."
- end of flashback -
I wake up around 10:00 am and watch movies until noon when Stacy walks in. "Get up, Anastasia, prom is in seven hours."
"I have plenty of time," I roll my eyes.
She shakes her head, "You need to do your nails, toes, and hair—that'll take three hours, then you should soak in the tub."
I sigh, "Fine, I'll be out in a few minutes and head to the hot tub room."
She nods.
Arlene texts me.
Best girlfriend: I'm coming over in an hour to get ready together.
Me: Bring your bikini; we'll soak in the hot tub for a while.
Best girlfriend: Cool! Can Gabriella come?
Me: Not at all.
****
One hour later
The doorbell rings, and I open it to find Arlene and Gabriella.
"Let's go to the hot tub room," I suggest.
Gabriella gasps, "No way!"
We change into our bikinis and get in the hot tub.
"This is relaxing; I wish we could stay here all evening," I say.
Arlene sighs, "Me too! Maybe we can have a sleepover tomorrow?"
"Sounds like a plan," I reply.
After soaking, gossiping, and laughing, we eat lunch.
"Who wants to go first for nails?" Stacy asks.
Arlene raises her hand. While she does her nails with Stacy, Gabriella does mine.
We spend the next hour getting ready.
"Why does getting ready for prom take so long? I should have known to skip it," I whine, and the others chuckle.
A few hours later
I'm in my long baby blue strapless dress and silver heels. My hair is loose with curls, and I have light makeup with red lipstick.
Arlene wears a short strapless red dress with matching heels, her hair in a high bun, and light makeup.
Gabriella is in a long gold dress with straps and gold heels, her hair styled in a low side ponytail.
"Come take a picture, girls! The guys will be here soon," Stacy says, and we pose for a few photos.
The doorbell rings, and Stacy opens it to reveal Kyle, Luke, and Justin in tuxedos that match our dresses.
"One more picture together, then you can leave," Stacy says.
Gabriella mumbles, "Thank goodness, my feet are killing me."
I chuckle.
Justin pulls me close, wraps his arm around my waist, and whispers, "You look beautiful; I love the dress." I blush.
We leave, and I grab my purse and camera.
__
We arrive at school, which looks amazing with decorations outside. I should have brought a jacket; it might get chilly later.
The gym is beautifully decorated, with a disco ball hanging from the ceiling.
I spot my friends with their dates, and Justin says, "Let's get a picture together, Anne," pointing to the photo booth. I nod.
We take three pictures in different poses, and soon our friends join us.
Jordan and Stephanie are arguing, so he drags a random girl to the booth.
"Okay, guys, say prom!" the photographer instructs.
"Prom!"
After the photo booth, Justin goes to get punch for me.
"Hi, Anne, you look wonderful! This is my date, Jael," Greg says, wrapping his arm around her waist.
She smiles, "Hey."
"Hi, nice to meet you," I reply.
When Justin returns, he and Greg chat while I look around.
Teachers are monitoring the dance floor. Jack and his date are dancing, Ian is talking, and Austin is flirting. Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves.
What could go wrong?
You know when you say, "What could go wrong?" Something always does.
I turn around and see Brandon and Isabella, the girl from my date with Brandon, walk in.
I roll my eyes, and Stephanie looks surprised, her mouth agape.
Jacob asks, "I thought only teens were allowed at prom. Where did Brandon find her?"
I reply, "At a hoe house or the streets; just look at how she's dressed—Stephanie can't top that."
Jacob chuckles.
