Sam and Brieanna sat at the cliff edge watching the moon rise. The moon light sparkled on the gently rolling waves. The salty scent of the sea and sweet smell of the bouquet of flowers she held filled the air. They held hands and Brieanna was snuggling as Sam had his arm around her. "Both of us are from Avalon," Sam said softly.

"I know you are telling me the truth, I just have no memory."

"You are a witch too."

"No I'm not!" she said than laughed. "Why do you say that?"

"Dragon riders are all witches."

"Is that true Dreki?" The dragon had been reclining on the ground behind them and answered.

"It's true little one."

"Why didn't I know?"

"Your powers have yet to emerge, you already have the gift of tongues," Sam said.

"What else will I be able to do?"

"Start fires with a word, throw fireballs, assist in a healing," Dreki said.

"Abigail don't do those things...does she?"

"This world is unlike ours."

"What is our world like?"

"Very different, we live under a covenant forswearing all coercion and force."

"Dreki said women are in charge."

"In some ways yes. The three sisters have the final say, we have a cannon of laws."

"What happens when you break the laws?"

"Restitution must be made and the behavior change."

"What if, let's say, a recalcitrant woman persists in her bad behavior."

"Banishment."

"Have you been banished?"

"Kind of...let me explain. About twelve years ago my older brother Lemuel did something so horrible that no one, not even my parents will talk about it. I was ten at the time. I idolized Lemuel and could not believe he could do anything that bad, and could not understand why he would not simply repent.

"Repentance is easy, restitution can be really hard!" Dreki whispered in a woebegone voice.

"Well a little over two years ago I petitioned the three sisters to cross the void and look for my brother."

"How did you end up here?"

"Lemuel was banished to this island."

"Have you found him?"

"No, no one recalls a Lemuel. The only other visitors have been, you, me and someone called Loki."

"Are you stuck here?"

"Four times a year, on the solstice and the equinox I can lite a signal fire at midnight on that mountain," he said pointing, "And arrange a pickup."

"Why haven't you left Sam?"

"I met this girl, with hair like a unicorn's mane and sparkling amber eyes. Her beauty and spirit overwhelmed my heart." Brieanna laughed at his statement.

"I know of no one that fits that description," she teased. "Do you ever wish you could go back?"

"Only if you come with me. I have nothing to offer you if we go back."

"I'm happy here, this is all I can remember. But if we were together I would be happy anywhere...Did I thank you for the flowers?"

"You kissed me."

"Do you want to kiss me again?" Brieanna teased.

"I think I'll go fishing, and leave the two of you alone," Dreki said and flew off.

"Can your dragon fly us to Avalon?"

"Dreki said he can't go there...You didn't answer my question. Are you avoiding me?" Brieanna said pouting and teasing.

"I would love to kiss you my little elf!" and he did.
