(Continuation of chapter 80)
Today was my husband's thirtieth birthday and not only did I have him but I had his family and now my mother was back in my life, I couldn't have been happier.
I had heard Clarissa talking to my mom right after she got here and she had just been very forthcoming with her about her coming back into my life and that she had better not be playing at some game with my emotions.
What showed me my mom's true intentions with this visit was when she told Clarissa how ashamed she was of not being there for me, basically what she had told me the night she arrived.
Vincent's mom had a good head for telling what people were about and she honestly believed my mom's intentions to be good and true which set my mind at ease.
I got to share the wedding video with her and I could tell right away that she was sad but she believed that had she been able to stand up to my dad, she would have been there. She didn't seem bitter about it and she remarked, with positive words, about everything.
I knew Vincent was planning on working for a bit this morning and then he would be home the rest of the day, and I told him the night before that I wanted to give him three of his gifts today and the fourth one he'd get tonight.
I just laid in bed for a bit, my stomach didn't seem to be too happy with me at the moment, when this horrible feeling of rolling and pitching around as I ran for the bathroom.
After expelling whatever it was, I felt much better, tired but better for sure and as I sat there, leaning my head on the cool tile wall, the most wondrous thought entered my mind. Could I finally be pregnant? Oh my God!
I did quick math in my head, when I had my last period and everything pointed to three or four weeks ago. I grabbed my phone and called Bri.
"Calli?" You could tell she was very confused as to why I would be calling her cell phone. "Can you talk?" I half whispered. "Hold on" she said and I could tell she was moving somewhere else.
"Okay, what's going on?" She asked, now whispering as well. "Are you or your mom going to the store or out at all in the next thirty minutes?" I asked. She said her mom had to go out for a few last minute items.
"Bri, I need you to promise me that what I'm about to tell you, you keep calm and don't tell anyone else?" "I promise Calli. Now what's wrong? You worrying me." She said.
I chuckled and said "Well, Aunt Bri." I hoped she would catch on and I knew she did when she went silent. "Oh.my.God!" She shrieked. "I need you to go with your mom and get me a test. I will tell her and my mom before I take it." She said I could count on her for discretion.
I decided to take a shower and sat down, leaned against the wall and closed my eyes, just for a minute. I awoke to the sound of my phone going off and quickly dried my hands and picked it up to answer it.
"I'm back" Bri said. Good grief I thought. How long had I been in here? Almost an hour! "Give me ten minutes and then have your mom and my mom meet in my mom's room." She said okay and we hung up.
I looked down at my flat stomach and caressed it, thinking what if Vincent's child is growing in here? This is what we both wanted and I was beginning to think maybe it wouldn't happen.
I was throwing up, I felt tired all the time, which was unusual for me, I was a little irritable and I'd noticed the other day when Vincent was playing with the girls, they felt tender.
I threw on my coral colored shift dress, ran my fingers through my hair and power-walked out of the room and down the stairs. When I got to the doorway of my mom's room, I could hear the three of them talking, but when I came in, they stopped.
I shut and locked the door. Letting out a nervous breath, I started by saying "I'm sure you guys are probably wondering why I asked you to come in here, so I'll get right to it. I think I might be pregnant."
The women looked at me, then at each other and then they screamed and came at me for a group hug. "Let's go into the bathroom and get this over with. The waiting has been killing me" I joked.
I read the instructions carefully and had Bri get her phone out so we could use the timer. After peeing on the stick, it was a waiting game, in which my mom brought up random topics to try and make it go faster.
Bri's timer went off and they all looked at me, waiting on me to approach and when I did make my way to the marbled counter, my hand flew to my mouth as my breath hitched.
It seemed like a lifetime before I could turn around but when I did, my mom started crying, Clarissa hugged her and Bri hugged me. "Oh my gosh!" I said crying. I couldn't believe it so I looked at the test again. It read POSITIVE and there was no mistaking that.
Just as I started to say something else, we all heard Vincent's voice coming down the hall and calling out for anyone who'd seen his wife. I asked them to go get him, letting him know I needed to see him.
I paced in the bathroom waiting for him to come in and when he finally did, his expressions were already asking a million-in-one questions.
"Calli, what's going on?" He asked me. I pulled him to the side of the garden tub and said "You'd better sit down, baby." And when he'd gotten situated, I picked up the test from the counter and handed it to him, stood back and waited for the reaction.
He studied it for a moment, knitting his brows together and I wasn't sure if he grasped what I was showing him but then he looked at me and said "Oh Calli, baby. Is this what I think it is?" His voice ripe with emotion.
I stood between his legs, looking down and smiling. "Yes daddy, it is" I said softly. Pulling me closer, he laid his mouth against my belly and just said thank you over and over again.
"Happy birthday, baby" I cried.
