Chapter 5
Throughout the five minute silence, Noah was thinking of the best question to ask Macey first. He wasn’t sure about this girl; never before in his life has he let someone so close to him that he would truly love them. The fact that Macey was the first girl that he ever felt he needed to protect, scared him. But, trying is better than burying yourself in your coffin when you have many more years to come.
“So, who is Mathew?” Noah finally asked. As Macey sucked in a breath, he hoped he hadn’t asked a question that would upset her. He also noticed that the sun was setting- not that he had noticed how similar Nirvana was to Earth. The only thing different is the fact that everything here is more natural and fresh. It’s like these angels keep their world alive by just glowing and providing life. He kind of liked it better here, there were no tall buildings or cars or pollution; it was beautiful.
Macey finally sighed- snapping Noah out of his trance-, “Mathew was my boyfriend. But he went out on a mission by himself, and when he didn’t come back- I just knew. It turned out that he walked straight into a demonic area, he had no chance. No chance, I went to Victor and begged that we go after him; but no one helped me. No one cared, no one did anything but say no. No one did anything” She frowned.
“I’m sure he was a great man” Noah smiled- in attempt to lighten her mood, “But hey, for the record, I would have helped you if I were here” He offered, “Although, I’m not really much help lately”
This made Macey stop and look at him- like really look at him. He was frowning, he had his hands in his pockets and was looking down at his feet as we walked along our own path. He looked- fragile? It made Macey think that maybe there was more than just some smart and hot guy there, maybe he wasn’t like all the guys she had met- Codie in particular. “What make you say that?” she asked with a frown.
“Ahh I don’t know Mace, I just- if I am this so called saviour, then why has my life been such a disappointment so far. I bet you even God can’t tell us that one, because you all have the wrong person. There has to be another half breed out there, I can’t- I could never be a warrior. Everyone I have loved so far has ended up dead.“ Noah frowned.
Macey stopped in her path and waited until he realised this, when he had finally turned around to face her, she offered him a polite smile. “You think you are a failure? My childhood consisted of my father abusing me, my mother leaving me behind, my uncle dying, me bashing up my father and running away and then I lost Mathew. So everyone I have known has left me. Maybe that’s why I am so independent; maybe it is why I act tough. But honestly Noah; I am just as scared as you” She sighed.
“Well, I’ll make you a deal” Noah smiled as he walked up until he was just inches away from me, “We stand side by side, I have you and you have me. Because right now I don’t trust anyone else more than I trust you and I’ll be damned if I leave you alone with people like Victor. So, we can be scared together”
Macey smiled up at him- although her head ended at his eyebrow in height- she liked having a friend who was taller than her. Although Noah is a guy, he was her friend; she could get used to this and so could he. She wrapped her arms around his waist- smiling at how far their friendship has grown in just days- and he held her just as tightly back, placing a kiss on her forehead. This wasn’t like any other friendship she had had, not even with Mathew; it was different, and it was special. “Deal” she smiled into his chest.
