Chapter 16
Noah ran after Veronica as she headed towards the lake. He tried to catch up to her, but man, was she fast. She went over obstacles, under them and around them, and Noah could never quite catch her.
Was she really running from a fight? Was she really chickening out? Why wouldn’t she just stop and fight him already? All these thoughts were running through Noah’s mind that he hadn’t realised Veronica had stopped running.
Veronica was now standing behind Noah, and Noah made it a quick reflex to face her so that she didn’t have an advantage over him. After all, he couldn’t fight her if he couldn’t face her, and if he had his back turned to her than she had a good chance at winning the fight.
“So we meet again” Veronica sneered, “The boy who won’t die”
Noah just laughed at this. She was kind of right, she had attempted to kill him twice now and he had been so close to death; yet he survived. It just wasn’t his fate to die yet. It is either; Noah is really lucky, or someone somewhere is looking out for him.
“No, Veronica. I can’t die, simply because it’s not my time” Noah stated, “You can’t deny the fates”
Veronica hung her head back and laughed out loud, “Well maybe you can’t die, but there is always a way to cheat the fates” she stated, “and if one cannot die, then one can always simply vanish”
“What is that meant to mean?” Noah asked- eyebrows furrowed.
“Think about it Noah” Veronica smiled, “maybe I can’t deny that you are not meant to die, but I can send you someplace where you are not meant to be. I can make you vanish and no one will know”
“Prove it” Noah growled, “There is no such place”
“Oh, so you haven’t heard of portals then?” Veronica asked.
At this, Noah froze. She was going to send him into a portal? But only force could do that, and she would have to be very forceful. Noah is stronger now, and he is not going down without a fight.
“Of course I have. I also know that I have to step in there myself” Noah stated, though; it wasn’t completely true. She could always carry him through while he was unconscious, or there were other possibilities.
“I guess we’ll find out, won’t we?” Veronica snickered.
Before Noah could reply, Veronica ran at him. In an instant Noah positioned himself in defence mode and got ready to block any of her blows.
At first, she took a shot at his stomach, but he easily blocked it and kicked at the back of her legs. She staggered for a second but she easily got back up, and, without warning; she jumped on him.
Noah staggered back as he tried to push Veronica off of her, but in seconds he fell to the ground, and in the process he slammed his head on the ground hard. He felt dizzy for a few seconds as everything swayed and blurred. But he had to regain himself; he couldn’t give Veronica an advantage, not even for a second.
It took everything for Noah to bring his legs to his chest and kick out as hard as he could. It worked for a second as Veronica’s weight was gone from the top of him, and so he tried to get up as quick as he could. But as soon as he got up, he felt a sharp stabbing pain to the back of his right shoulder.
Noah cried out as he took a lazy swing around, and he heard Veronica laugh. He was still unsure of what she had just done. But when he felt something trickling down his arm, he realised what had just happened. She bit him.
Noah’s vision began to clear as he looked around for Veronica, but she was nowhere to be seen. This had Noah on edge, she could strike him at any moment.
