Chapter 28
Macey let the sword guide her path as she walked the dark caves of hell, not knowing where she was heading, but trusting that the sword would take her where she need to be.
It’s like Michael had said;Macey, you will get that sword, and when you hold it in your hands, you’ll know what to do. You’ll just know.
Macey does know what to do now. She just needs to find her mother first, because before it can all end, Macey needs answers. More importantly, her mother needs to realise that it is all over, and that there’s nothing she can do.
The ground at Macey’s feet began to dampen, and soon the dust that had once puffed up at each of her steps was no longer to be seen. The air began to grow humid, and Macey could hear the distant sound of running water, growing stronger.
As the sound of running water grew louder, Macey could hear feminine whispers, and she began to slow her pace, hoping that she wouldn’t be noticed.
As she neared the corner of a cave tunnel, she placed her back against the rough wall of rock, grimacing as sharp edges poked her here and there. She slowly peeked around the corner, a strand of hair falling over the side of her face.
She huffed out unconsciously, the strand of hair puffing out before landing back on her face. “Great” she muttered.
Ignoring the hair in her face, she continued to peek around the edge of the cave wall. Macey had to hold in a gasp when she saw the opening of the large area around the corner.
It was a large round space, with the ceiling being non-existent and looking more like a devious black whole. Water poured down from the whole, landing in a jagged looking fountain in the middle of the area, the water then rushing across the room and into another dark pit in the wall, which was only just narrow enough to fit a teenager, if they squeezed.
“Huh, now I’ve seen everything” Macey mumbled, “There’s water in hell. In hell!”
Macey couldn’t understand the world. Hell was a place of death and suffering, and there is water pouring from who knows where. Macey was expecting some lava, some never-ending fire, but this? She was not expecting water- being that it’s so pure- in a place so tainted.
Maybe rivers of blood, she could understand that, but water? There had to be a reason for this. Things happen to get you to that place where you’re meant to be, and all you can do is embrace that.
Macey’s lips lifted up in a sad smile as she remembered Michael pep-talk. As much as she envied how encouraging he could be, she knew he was right.
Whatever this place is, with its water and what not, somehow she feels like this is where she is meant to be, where she needs to be.
Macey opened her eyes, peeking around the corner once more. Her mother was standing by the edge of the fountain, leaning on its jagged edge, while muttering sentences and cursing profanities.
