Cal's secret

Cal got up late one night, eleven o'clock I think it was. I pretended to be asleep as I listened to him dress and leave the house. Then I got up and followed him, I was confused as anybody would be. I followed him down the main road towards the town centre and once there, down a back alley and down some stairs to a door.

An intimidating door

I found myself in an underground club, people dancing, intoxicated and bass music playing over the speakers. I pulled my cap down tighter over my messy hair, trying to look for Cal. The commotion had made me lose my sight on him and I couldn't see him anywhere. After looking around for what seemed like a very long time, I walked up to the bar. I watched a couple of guys order and I noticed something. Most people just got their drinks, paid and left but anyone who ordered and angel shot was given a keycard with their drink. So I ordered one too.

"One angel shot please."

And then I waited again until the next person ordered this strange drink, once it happened I followed the young man through the club. He blended in well, a typical outfit of skinny jeans and a t-shirt that was a little too big. It was a good job I didn't drink, otherwise I might have lost him. Watching from a distance I saw him swipe his card and enter a room at the back of the club, so after five minuets I followed. The hot atmosphere of this was a bit to much.

I kept one hand on my cap as I entered the room and made my way over to a crowd of people at the little bar. The room had about 50 people in it, a small bar and dancefloor accompanied by music. Then there were also a number of gambling tables. Roulette, black jack just to name a few. So this was the secret, and unlicenced casino.

I picked up my beer and wandered around the room and that's when I saw him.

A drunk Cal
Gambling on a roulette wheel

Oh.     My.       God.

I didn't know what to do and I found myself walking toward him and pushing my way to the table and standing next to him. I watched as he placed a bet on the next spin so I tried to dig some money out of my pocket.

"Its OK I got it, what number?"

"16"

So Cal placed a bet on number sixteen. And the wheel span. And that's when time began to slow down. The smell of smoke overwhelmed me as I noticed almost everyone was smoking, including Cal. Cal was a smoker and a gambler and I didn't know.

As soon as we left that dam club I wanted to confront him but he was drunk, it wouldn't work. So I had to do one of the hardest things in life.
