“Sweetheart? Is that you?” I ask, slowly inching towards the double doors, to Arianna. Stupid question, I know. But I thought I just heard her speak and I can’t believe my ears. In the entire month that I’ve known her, she’s been unable to speak. But I did just heard her speak! Right?

Arianna nods while struggling with the duvet which was falling all over the place. “I couldn’t find you.. I was scared..” she whispers with her tiny, raspy voice. I notice she’s got this really adorable British accent.

I hurry through the doors and quickly close them without taking my eyes off Arianna. “I’m sorry Sweetheart. I just stepped out for a bit. I didn’t mean to leave you.” I apologize, immediately hugging her tightly when I notice her eyes were wide with fear.

I feel her damp forehead soak through my shirt and I take a small step back, bringing my palms up to her forehead to check her temperature. “Arianna sweetheart, are you having a fever?” I ask her, noticing that her face seemed flush.

I practically screamed through the mind link at Nate to get Miss Smith to come check on Arianna. Misinterpreting my panic, Blake rushes through my room, screaming at the top of his lungs “What’s wrong!? What’s wrong?!”

That startled Arianna causing her to jump into my arms, shaking violently; her arms around my neck and legs wrapped around my waist tightly. I glare at Blake for startling her but end up rolling my eyes instead.

If I wasn’t so pissed at him for distressing Arianna, and also worried that she could be getting sick instead of better, I would have laughed my head off. He was only wearing his boxer shorts and frilly green apron – without a shirt. I’m seriously questioning his sexual orientation now.

Ignoring Blake and his lack of clothes, I settle into the middle of the bed with Arianna still wrapped around my torso.  I stroke her hair while Blake – who’s also climbed onto the bed next to us – strokes her back. “I’m sorry, Arianna. I’m really really sorry…” Blake chants over and over like a broken record.

Slowly Arianna calms down and turns her head sideways, resting her cheek on my chest to look at Blake who’s barely a foot away from her. For the first time since Blake barged in, I noticed his proximity to her and I suddenly stiffen. I’m worried that she’ll notice his closeness and start her panic attack all over again.

I slowly look up to see Nate studying the scene in front of him and I can see worry lines etch his face. Clearly we’re both on the same page. “Do you think it’s a good idea to get Blake out before Arianna realizes how close he is to her?” I ask Nate. He nods and replies “I’ll tell him I ruined the noodles he left cooking in the kitch--.”

“It’s ok, Bla…” Arianna manages to say before her voice falters.

I’m sure we all had the same wide-eyed, gaping mouth expressions as Nate and Blake hear Arianna speak for the first time.

I slightly detached Arianna from me to look into her eyes, wondering if she’s aware of what’s going on. Her confused look told me she doesn’t understand what we’re gaping about.

“Sweetheart… You just spoke to Blake… And you’re not flinching away from him even though he’s touching your back and his face is barely a foot from yours. Are you okay with Blake now?” I ask, hope swelling in me.

Her eyes widen in surprise and I feel my hope deflating, thinking maybe she’ll start shaking again. I clench my eyes close, angry at myself for bringing it to her attention instead of just letting Nate remove Blake before she noticed. Stupid, stupid, stupid! I mentally scream at myself.

I clutch her tighter, waiting for her panic attack to set in but it doesn’t come. My eyes snap open when I hear Blake’s breath hitch. Arianna’s fingers were lightly patting Blake’s arm, like she was testing herself.
