Twirling three sixty on the spot, I do a quick survey of our surroundings. Having being placed halfway between the palace and the rest of the warrior wolves who were looking on, we were pretty much out in the open.
“Damn! This is like an unfair advantage on their part.” Nate grumbles through the mindlink, since Ethan Brandt and his pack can easily overhear us from where we are.
I dart a look at TOP, silently pleading for his help since none of us are particularly experienced in real combat.
TOP motions with a brief twirl of his fingers to ask us to gather round. Huddling close together, TOP reaches forward to tug both Nate, Blake and I closer into the circle.
He pulls out his phone and starts typing instructions.
We will break into six groups. Five groups of four and the last group will have five.
Since there are twenty warrior wolves and five of us, I assumed the warrior wolves would break out into groups of four and Nate, Blake, Michelle, TOP and I would be the group of five.
Nate, you will go with Marty, Logan and Ben. TOP types, then points out each of them while mouthing their names to Nate.
Blake, you will go with Jack, Steve and Kevin. Again, TOP points out each of them to Blake.
Caleb, you come with me, Michelle, Trent and Harvey. Studying the two men TOP pointed out, I take in their physical build. I can’t tell their height since we were huddling tighter than football players at playoffs. But I could see their bulging muscles and determined faces.
For the other twelve warrior wolves, TOP wasted no time to type the instructions. Instead, he used his mindlink, which we obviously didn’t hear.
Rearrange yourselves into your units. TOP types before moving right next to me, with Michelle on my other side and Trent and Harvey covering my back. Nate and Blake have been maneuvered into similar positions with the rest of the warrior wolves closing us in completely.
The warriors inside the palace are unable to confirm Arianna or Trevor’s whereabouts. If you notice, you can’t hear the Blood Moon pack talking from here. TOP pauses and we all strain our ears to try to make out any hint of conversation.
Hearing nothing, I tap the side of my forehead and mouth, mindlink. Nodding, TOP continues typing.
They’re being very quiet, communicating only through mindlink so the warriors inside can’t tell where they are. Comm silence effectively means we can’t pinpoint them.
Grabbing his phone from him, I type. Get Parker to ask Arianna where she is. He can relay it to General Lo and he can pass on the message.
TOP shakes his head and grabs his phone back. Tried it. She’s been blindfolded.
Damnit!
TOP starts typing again. We do it the old fashion way. We search section by section.
I peek at my watch, it’s six twenty. Do we have enough time to finish searching and fighting before sunrise?
Placing a hand on my shoulders, TOP squeezes it lightly, as if reassuring me that we’d find her and Trevor in the allotted time.
Pointing at me, TOP mouths “Unit One”, then at Nate and lifts two fingers. Next, he points at Blake and lifts three fingers. Pointing at the next warrior wolf, he indicates four and continues pointing out the numbers until he’s covered all six units.
